Thanks Rich.

I'm not sure I have an existing microphone. I opted for the base radio since I knew I'd be replacing it pretty quickly. And I'm not sure if it would interface with the new head unit if I did have one already.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what UConnect involves. I've heard of it, but I don't know what it does. I have the 7-speaker "premium" (ha!) Alpine system but went with the base head unit because I knew I'd replace it quickly.

My new setup allows me to have AM/FM (natch). I can play any audio from my iPhone via Bluetooth audio. When I plug in via the rear USB port and a dock connector I can play music and get the Pandora interface on the head unit. I can play CDs and watch DVDs. I can make calls via the head unit and go hands-free with the wired microphone.

I have the option of expanding to a reverse camera, which I'll likely do in the future. I can also expand to a GPS unit, if I chose to. I won't do that since I have my iPhone though.

My steering wheel controls are all intact. I have all the controls and options I'll ever need.

I went with the Pioneer AVH-X4500BT. The interface on this unit is very slick and the operation is quick. I paired it with the new-ish PAC RP4-CH11 harness. That comes with the steering wheel interface built in. You can use default steering wheel controls or program your own. I chose to modify two of the six steering wheel functions to better suit my needs.

Here's the old coming out.

I used a tutorial I found somewhere else that showed how to remove the dash. I read that it was easy. But I didn't think it'd be that easy. Four 7mm screws and it's off.

Then 4 more 7mm screws and the head unit is out.

Here's the finished product.

I hooked up the microphone and placed it on top of my steering wheel column. It's mostly out of sight there and faces directly at me for optimal reception of my voice. I routed a USB cable down and under the center center stack to the arm rest.

Your Jeep and the new HU look great. Keep up the good work and giving us ideas on how to spend our money.

That is a serious rig you got going on there!

I noticed you went with the Tuffy underseat box. Do you have heated seats or side-air bags? Any install problems?

Thanks Mark.

I don't have heated seats or side airbags. But it installed very easily. I did need to use a breaker bar (my hitch over a wrench! lol) to break the seat bolts loose. They were on incredibly tight. Otherwise, it was problem free.

Kramer,
The Uconnect adds Bluetooth connectivity to the base unit. I opted for it so I could use the base radio with my iPhone via Bluetooth. It has some perks, like an integrated mic at the drivers side, near the front windshield. I'd imagine there may be some way to use that mic if I swapped out radios, but to be honest, my drive to work is only 10 miles so I barely have enough time to listen to a few songs on Sirius before I'm done.

The worst thing about these threads is that all of the builders have mechanical skills that I couldn't even come close to. But I still have a list of mods I can try.

Try to find someone on the forum that's near your area. People will usually be willing to help especially if free beer and pizza are involved.

What do you do when the sun is shining and it's in the 70s in Florida?

You take the Jeep to the beach of course!

We were leaving and decided to go out a different way. Up until it was time to leave high tide left this exit closed. I saw that the tide had receded enough to brave it. It was easy, and fun. But messy!!

Yet another awesome Florida Jeep beach day.

Not much unfortunately.

I'm currently doing my homework on sliders. I want to go with the JCR Stage 2 sliders but I can't find verification that they'll work out of the box with my Bushwacker flat flares.

JCR got back with me and stated that they haven't had any customers verify it for them nor have they tried that combination.

The did say I could do some trimming on the sliders if the BW's extend beyond the OEM flare mounting locations. I just can't remember if the BW's extend further into the rocker area than the OEMs.

Anyone want to take a stab at that one for me?

That's where I'm at with my setup right now. I haven't had much time to go Jeeping lately since holiday travel got in the way. We have had a few very nice days of weather down here. Actually my Jeep is in the garage with the doors and top off waiting for the next sunny day.

I recently installed a teraflex long arm kit on mine and am debating the bushwacker flares. U satisfied with the fit. I just ordered the teraflex rock sliders and can't decide on a bumper that will fit the warn zeon winch. Jeep looks great by the way, copied u on a few items or six.

Can I ask why you chose the JCR Stage 2 sliders? I am looking at sliders and curious what others chose and why?

I want to go the JCR route because they're high and tight to the tub. They offer the advantage of a step too. It's not a huge, obtrusive step though. It looks the perfect size to be usable but not get in the way. I'm not a tall guy, so doing things like like lowering the top and such becomes a little tedious than it should be. And I think they just look plain cool! The way they come up to protect the rocker panels is pretty badass IMO. And the price is a nice bonus too.

Thanks mate.

The BW flares have become one of my favorite mods.

They fit fantastic and are surprisingly stout. I like my Jeep to look a little different and the flares really help it stand apart.

I knew I'd eventually go with a flat fender. Originally I wanted tube fenders but the designs just weren't doing it for me. I got these off Amazon around $435 which is an incredible price if you look around.

My suspension has tons of flex and I have no worries now with rubbing the low hanging stock fenders.

In terms of the PAC harness and its ability to program the steering wheel buttons, can you set it up so the uconnect phone button on the steering wheel activates the aftermarket radio's bluetooth hands-free function? Or the uConnect Voice command button to activate any voice command options on the radio? Or do you just have the volume and track select button active?

I don't have the uConnect system so I wouldn't be able to answer that, unfortunately.

No need for the Uconnect system. Do you use those button on your steering wheel for your radio's bluetooth phone functions? or do you just use the volume and skip buttons on the back of the wheel? How do you make phone calls with the bluetooth?

These top two buttons
