Liberty_2112: 2013 Black JKU

My name is Robert. I am located in northwestern CT.

I decided I would try to organize my Wrangler mod posts into one concise thread. I'll just add here anytime I make a modification.

So here is my Jeep. A black 2013 JKU Sahara 4 door. I purchased the Jeep in 2014 with 12,500 miles on it. The Jeep had a factory installed 2" MOPAR lift with 33" Cooper Adventurer A/T3 tires.

I am not sure of the make/model of the wheels.

Mounted under the seat was a Bestop safe. Jeep also had a MOPAR fuel door cover. The Jeep came with a Freedom Hard Top and a Soft Top. I have not yet tried the soft top.

Here's a pic from the day of purchase.

The first thing I did was remove the decals/stickers. I removed the Dealer sticker and the Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited decals.

Next I added Rugged Ridge headlight and tail light guards.

I added a 4t recovery shackle to the rear hitch.

I made two rolling dollies to hold my front and rear doors when removed. Covered with carpeting for protection.

I put together a "Jeep Bag".

This is a work in progress.

I removed my stock bumper and swapped it for a Barricade Trail Force HD with factory fog lights. I mounted a Warn Zeon 10 winch.

I removed my factory side step to prepare to mount new rock sliders. (Unfortunately I am not at all happy with the sliders I purchased and I am hoping to resolve the issue with the vendor.)

So for now the Jeep has no steps or rock sliders.

I removed the chrome colored JEEP emblem from the front of the Jeep and replaced with a black MOPAR JEEP emblem.

Very nice jeep. Wheels seem to be AEV saverge. I really like your choice of front bumper also, about the same widht as my 10A bumper when not stubbied.

I built a cutom DIY shelf for the rear storage unit of the Jeep. I wanted something that would prevent passers by from looking into my storage area. I also wanted a place to mount some tools. The shelf is resting on the hard top mounting area, but has rubber feet to protect the OEM hardware.

On the underside of the shelf I have securely mounted by Hi-Lift jack, my axe, and my shovel.

Lastly I mounted my fire extinguisher. I mounted this on the top side of the shelf so that it would be easily accessible to myself or a passenger in an emergency.

I just became a WF Supporting Member. I've already gotten so much help from this forum, I figured it was only right to make a small donation to say "thanks" and to keep this great resource moving.

We aim to please!

I agree with you. From when I joined till now I have learned SO much! I can't believe what I've picked up in just about fifteen months. And it's all from reading here. And a little OJCD doesn't hurt!

It can, yes. I have to take it out to remove the hard top, but then it can be put right back in place.

No. The shelf is stationary. I spent some time considering a hinge and a flip up section. In the end I decided I wanted stability and durability so I went with a stationary design.

In order to remove the shelf it must be dismantled.

Is it that obvious that I plan to change out the flares?

Will probably be a month or two before I go down that road. I want to do the rear bumper first.

I wanted to install a push button switch for my garage door opener. I hate having the top off or doors off and having my garage door opener just attached to the sun shade.

I know lots of people like hiding their openers in the roll bar, but I wanted something easy to access.

So I wired a simple momentary push button switch to my garage door remote. I mounted the switch on the small section of panel above the speaker on the drivers side dash. Very easy to just pop open the side panel whenever I need to replace the battery. I secured it with Velcro so it wouldn't rattle.

Now the button is easy to access and out of the way and the remote is not easily accessed by thieves.

Today I mounted my Rugged Ridge fairlead front license plate holder.

Not a fun mod, per se, but required in my state for legality.

I like this setup and it is very clean. Where did you get that push button? I hate having my opener on the sun visor and would love to do something like this. Thanks
