New addition, custom install of flush mount Rigid Industries Dually D2's with the 65* diffusion lens into the rear tail lights. I want to get a ton more lighting to the rear of the jeep. I also did not want to mount them in the bumper or to use the new tail light mount from Rigid. After some research on the specs I determined that I should be able to surface mount them right over where the factory reverse lights go.

The lights come with a nice little templet to mark the location of the lights.

With the use of a dermal tool and a plastic cutting bit I just followed the templet I marked. In order to fit into jeep housing, I offset the mounting hole just slightly.

I then flipped the housing over and removed the excess plastic from the rear. I left the lower tab that holds the housing to the jeep. I also removed a little extra from the thin side of the housing in order to get the nuts on after I insert the lights.

You can see in this picture the tab piece I left, also getting to the screws to install the lock washer and nuts is very tight.

I used a file end to stack the washer and nut. Then put the tip on the bolt and let the washer and nut slide onto the bolt (see above)

To be continued

Here is the light mounted into the housing. It fits perfect and only extends into the brake light cavity slightly.

The housings went right back into place after you trim the alignment tab off the back of the light housing.

Nice work DF!! That's an awesome setup on the backup lights. Beyond my skillset to do, but I want them. I wonder if this is something my shop (4 Wheel Parts) techs can do? Also, I have a Off Camber Fabrications front bumper(no winch) coming this week to put on my 12 Crush JK. What do you think of mounting those 10inch Rigid Industries flush on the bumper? OR..... two 6inch Rigids? I know it's different than putting it on bumper w/ winch.

Thank you!,

I think you could do the mod on the tail lights yourself. It looks a little harder then it is. The hardest part was getting the nuts and washers on the bolts. If you have a dremal it's pretty easy.

I think the front bumper flush mount wold be cool. I would mount the spots in there if I was doing it. Or do a 10" on the front bumper.

Post some pics I'd love to see how it turns out.

Thanks, DF. Here's a present day pic, before I add the new OCF bumper and OME lift. Did you mean the SR Mini Spot or Dualy when you said that you'd mount spots flush on the bumper I'm putting on? Clearly, you're the guru of mods. I'd take your advice in a minute.

Did you put a gasket between the Dually housing and the taillight?

Darkfire - What's the part number and/or where did you order the flush mount lights for the tailights?? I can't find them on the Rigid Industries site. I see the Dually's 2 but nothing that looks like the ones you put on. Thanks.

Are these the rocker only or are they the full switches? If full switches what color are they when lit?

Cool, I am not familiar with the sPOD wiring, looking to get one though. Is there constant power going to the sPOD to handle the 2nd light in the switch? Or are you going to tie it in another way?
