Maximus Decimus Meridius- 2016 Willys 2 door

Or Maximus for short.

Summary:
  • KJ Combo lift- 2.5" Teraflex with Rancho 5000x and Control Arm Correction Brackets
  • Bestop Trektop PRO
  • 33" Duratracs (mark my words she'll upgrade them to 35s )
  • 13" Antenna X
  • Trek Armor
  • Wheel spacers for Backspace

We visited my buddy at the dealer on 11/18/2015 to test drive a Renegade, wow did they feel cheap. There was a '16 Firecracker Red Willys on the showroom floor that caught the wife's eye so we left in it. AC and Auto are the only options.

Our intention is to make a DD that's a little more friendly than our '14 Rubicon Brutus.

Day 1: The first evening after we brought Maximus home the wife couldn't sleep, thoughts of lifts and tires were swirling thru her head. So I grabbed the laptop and we surfed. We decided the KJ combo (Teraflex/Rancho) and 33" Duratracs were the way to go. Next day we ordered the lift and a shorty antenna.

Day 2: The following day she decided the shiny black grill and inserts were too "foo foo" (<her words) so I handed her a wrench and she went to work on them.

Day 3: Grill bedlinered.

Day 4: chip in the windshield, spread to full blown crack the same day.... ughhhh....

Soft top really doesn't fit her needs so we ordered the Bestop PRO top with the rear window that flips up. It's a nice top with glass instead of plastic.

Maximus will get a bumper transplant from Brutus, starting with the rear Smitty XRC (Brutus will get the EVO rear facia.)

Parts started arriving yesterday and I have next week off to get the installs done. Wanted to start this thread to chronicle the progress.

So here's some pics:

Showroom floor:

Day 2, bumper primered, black inserts removed:

Day 3: bed lined grill:

First day on the road:

Top is slated to arrive on Wednesday as is the lift. Shocks are here. Should be a productive week.

Wow, I didn't noticed the 1/2 doors until someone else pointed them out, I really like that look. The wife nearly bought me 1/2 cargo net doors for Christmas but she figured I would never put them on, however seeing your Willy's ....... I think she would have been wrong!

Nice, did you get your fascia ordered?

So once you get the lift is she going to let you get it dirty just to say you did?

Like the slant back look for sure.

Offer is open to help if you need it.

Nice! My wife has talked about getting a second Jeep as well, not sure I can handle modding two of them! I'll be following along for sure, the half doors are awesome!

Facia/d-rings came in today, hitch won't be in until next week. Gotta tow on Saturday so it will have to wait.

Thanks for the offer, I called in the big gun to help tomorrow, my 10 yo grandson He just drew a pic of his Grammy's new Jeep

More pics tomorrow

Thanks, Johnny! Not too many mods for this one, keeping it mild. Hopefully knock it all out in the next week and get back to building Brutus

So New Year's Eve I got up early and installed the WF (Teraflex/Rancho) 2.5" lift & spidertrax spacers. No issues with the install, it was pretty straight forward. Really like the Rancho brackets for a street Jeep.

Afterwards I took it on a trial run to see Star Wars VII and get some steak/lobster as a treat

New Year's day I was back up to install the TrekTop Pro. Install again was fairly easy. Had one issue with the plastic on the passenger side cracking, don't know if it was like that or if I pulled the fabric too hard when tucking it in. Seems to be really soft plastic, hopefully just a defect.

Trek Armor will be here next week, also the heated seat inserts. After that we'll need to make a decision on tires. Firm on Duratracs, I'm pushing for 33s, she's pushing for 35s. I have a feeling I know how it's going to end....

Trektop is awesome quality so far, my only issue is the difference in color between the door uppers and the top. Didn't plan that very well. By next fall we'll get full doors for the winter and it won't be an issue.

So here's some poser pics on the mods:

Stay tuned for more next week.

Looks great! A red JK with the half doors is enough to make anyone want to leave the dealership with it. I'm leaning heavily toward the same WF most popular lift and 33's/35's. I'm excited to see how yours turns out. Subscribed!

Looks great!
Might check with jscherb (Jeff Scherb). I "think" he sold his half door sliding window concept to a company that put them in production for a reasonable cost.
If I remember correctly (and please ask Jeff to be sure), his concept added sliding windows, like the Bestop, and also eliminated (or reduced) the flapping of the stock uppers.

Great idea to put the Smitty rear bumper on Maximus. Should look really good with the new top.

Jeff is THE MAN,

That guy has come up with some great designs, and then sells them to companies that do great work for good value.

I'm merely a repository of sometimes useful stuff.
Kind of like a crochet toilet paper holder we all hope doesn't come up empty.

With the cold weather looming (18* Sunday morning) the wife was getting a little pushy wanting the heated seats installed.
Ordered this heated seat kit from Amazon: LINK
Ordered Trek Armor/Bartact seat covers, black with red stitching. Thanks Mitch & Sal!!! @Trek Armor
Ordered some LED strips, for floor lighting, from Amazon: LINK

Install wasn't bad, little less than 4 hours for all of it. Pics:

Little different location for the heated seat switch, didn't want them up by the cupholders so I put them in front of the shifter.

I've been wanting Trek Armor for Brutus for a long time, after installing these on Max I'm moving them up on my list for sure. Fit is great, quality is great and they're a great bunch of guys to work with.

For power I used the 12v power cord from Quadratec: LINK BUT got a call from the wife this morning that the fuse has blown with both seats running. Crap, guess I'll have to figure that out tonight.....

That's all for now. Still saving $$ and trying to decide on tires. Rock rails on the horizonand also her birthday gift (can't disclose in case she reads this)

Wow, that escalated quickly! I'll have to look into the heated seat kit for my wife's JKU. If I would have known about those, I would have gotten her them along with the remote start for Christmas. Mind if I ask where you took the "poser" pics at? Wife has been itching to take some with her new tires.

How cool. A wife that not only Jeeps but wrenches too. You are a Blessed man. Nice jeep too. BTW I would let her win on the 35's if you have to change later it will be your fault.
