This is definitely a "bolt on" thread more than a build thread!
Finished up the latest projects today and now time for a cold one and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Ordered some of the fun sPOD switches from OTRTTW that have Jeep icons on them with CB radio, lighting etc. Decided to go with a compact CB mounted to the left of the shifter vs. an all-in-one like the cobra75. There is sufficient room along the side and the reviews say it holds up for many years.

Nicely done! I see that you went with the licence plate mount. Any particular reason over the tire carrier one? And is that a 3 or 4ft antenna?

Thanks, Monk. Ideally, I wanted one on the tire carrier (not a fan of front mounted antennas even though that is best for reception from what I understand) but couldn't find one that would work with the ACE rear bumper.

The mount itself is quite solid which is good since many of the trails around here are heavily wooded. It feels exposed but will see...

It is a 4 ft. antenna and about 1" too high when pulling in/out of the garage so I just go slow. It's a Firestik and was able to get it tuned pretty quickly below 1.5 on an SWR meter as recommended.

Will be going on an organized trail ride in late September with a local club so have been getting everything set for that. Last thing for this year is a beefier track bar. Oh yeah, and an air compressor and front aux lights, and.....

Well, didn't know that about the Ace bumper. Hope the plate mount works out ok. Maybe one of those spring antenna adaptors might help so it can bend when you go into the garage.
I know what you mean about the mods/upgrades. I thought the bumper I just bought and installed would be it for awhile, but saw that great 40% off Labor Day sale at Superwinch so last night and ordered a Tigershark 9500 SR. About $343 shipped with a winch cover. The wife said "Merry Christmas" early, Since that's what I wanted. I do want some lights for the bumper and maybe a cb if I get involved with a local club. I have a small portable air compressor already, the Viair 88P and that works for me, for now since I still have the stock size tires.

For what it's worth, Mike has the ViAir 88p and it airs up his 35s relatively quickly. We are very happy with it.

And if you get the ACE rear bumper with the carrier, it includes a CB antenna mount. Maybe that's why they didn't come up with a separate mount.

Thanks for the info. Have been looking at the ViAir's and under-hood ARB. Like the lower price and not being tied down to one vehicle with the portable yet also like the on-board convenience of the ARB. Will see...

So, sounds like I missed something. I do have the ACE rear bumper (pro series) with tire carrier but didn't see a CB antenna mount. Where the heck is that?? Looked at your thread a while back and don't recall seeing it. You have a pic? I'm going to be bummed if I completely missed it.

Hi Star...thanks to you and Mike for the pic. I see now where he attached the antenna. Looks like he drilled a hold in the existing bracket. Wish I would have seen that on my carrier before! Will see how the license plate set-up works since it is mounted up and would have a hole now if I removed the antenna.

Glad to hear that WarPig is back in action and hopefully for a long time!

When did you get your ACE bumper? Mike bought his on Black Friday, but it didn't come in until January this year and his was pre-drilled like in the picture. Older bumpers weren't drilled, so I'm wondering if you got old stock from somewhere. I didn't think you bought yours before Mike got his... but I could be suffering from CRS today.

We are SO glad he is home! I never want to set foot in the service department again, but I know I have to soon to get my hinges fixed...

I bought the bumper direct from ACE Engineering about this time last year so was probably before they redesigned it. Does Mike's also have the 4 holes pre-drilled in the panel to the right of the tire to mount their hi-lift jack mount? I needed to drill those myself as well but the newer ones come pre-drilled.

My new Teraflex adjustable track bar arrived this week so will be getting that on this weekend along with the Northridge Grade 8 bolt kit. Will be all set for the trail ride at the end of this month. A guy in the local Jeep club here opens up his land for a weekend so should be fun!

Oh, MAN!!! How many drill bits did you tear up drilling those holes?

I didn't realize you got yours so soon after you got your jeep. Mike's bumper came with the hi lift mount (part of the Black Friday deal) and no, he didn't have to drill it, either.

Congratulations on the Trackbar. We love ours. We got the LCAs, too. Just to help with the caster. But I ran just the Trackbar for two weeks and I really liked it like that, too.

Sounds like a nice ride coming up! One of the guys in our club is opening up his ranch for a Safety Fest in October that we are REALLY looking forward to. Take lots of pictures!

Installed Teraflex track bar which is quite beefy compared to stock. Looking forward to seeing how it handles on the trail. Also replaced the blank sPOD switches with Jeep icons and a couple novelty ones. Passengers are much better behaved now and even offer to fill up the tank when traveling.

Nice day of trail riding yesterday on a beautiful 80 degree and sunny day.
About 50-60 Wranglers. This was an organized trail ride through MN Trail Riders

Trails were mostly wooded and/or rocky hills and some small ravines which were fun. I stayed on the moderate trails as I'm still learning the technical skills and only have 33's and 2" lift so wouldn't have cleared the bigger rocks and am not quite ready for significant body damage.

Had quite a few folks ask if I had lockers (no) due to the ease "Calamity Jane" made it up the hills compared to other similar size jeeps in the group. I give credit to the heavy front/rear bumpers and DuraTracks with low miles that probably provided better traction.

The JKS quick disco's are great and glad to have them. Teraflex Monster track bar was awesome. Definitely could tell the difference compared to the last trail ride. Noticed it right away on-road as well which surprised me. One of the best parts was getting to test out my winch on a Jeeper stuck on a rather steep hill (couldn't make it up and then rolled back into a large log that jammed up under rear bumper). It's a Warn8000s and worked like a champ!

One mod I wasn't too crazy about is the hi-lift jack mount location combined with heavily wooded trails. The jack is a bit higher then the roll bars which added another clearance issue to attend to (Pic 4 below) Didn't hit anything but came VERY close twice. Will be looking at a home made alternative to go horizontal probably between the roll bars as I'm not a fan of front bumper or hood mounts.

Didn't get any great trail pics due to my brother and I being too preoccupied negotiating the trail during the interesting parts.
Pic 1 is my older bro with "Calamity Jane". The guy next to us has a 20+ year old Jeep and is the first time it has been off-road. He was excited to get on the trail. Pic 2 we're lining up to get to the trail. Pic 3 is a guy heading out a small ravine. Trails are narrow so if you start sliding, watch out for trees!

Tires have been rubbing on the fenders in off-camber situations. Also got around to measuring the shocks and the fully compressed length is just about exactly the same as when the spring is fully compressed. Double checked suspension clearances as well and top of the steering stabilizer was making contact when the axel was as high as it could go. Everything else was clear. So, saw a post from kjeeper10 and a few other folks about using hockey pucks as bump stop extensions so gave that a whirl today. Flexed it up a bit and looks like it will do the trick!

Great time today at the Twin Cities All Breed Jeep Show for Epilepsy. Impressive vendor support. Picture-perfect Fall day with 60+ jeeps, food, music, raffle, etc....and the Gophers beat Purdue! Hope Joe organizes this again next year.

Turchman....finally met CaballoDiablo! Nice guy and awesome Jeep (can you find our Jeeps in the pics?)

Changed out manual transmission fluid with Pennzoil Synchromesh this weekend hoping it would be less stiff shifting on cold mornings. Interesting finding...just over 1 qt of fluid came out but capacity is slightly more than 2 quarts! Jeep is just a year old. Seemed like a awfully low fluid level. If you still have factory fluid, may be worth removing your fill plug and topping off to make sure you're full.

The jeep show looked like a great time! Pretty sure that's yours in the second pic, first in line.
Thanks for the info on the manual trans fluid. I only have a little I've 13000 mi on it now and wasn't really thinking about trans. Coming up soon on my second oil change though.

You got it right!
I hear ya, the only reason I even touched the MT fluid is shifting was VERY stiff last winter until it warmed up. Granted, it was a brutally cold winter as well but thought I'd try it. Boy was I surprised at how little fluid came out!

Now that the hard top is back on , did a little preventive maintenance today and greased up all the weather stripping on the freedom panels, doors and tailgate to prevent future leakage issues.

I will hopefully get to go to an event soon, maybe on the 26th. Been pretty busy with our exchange student from Germany, he leaves on the 21st. He is a super nice kid and will be missed. I did get him to help me with the front license plate on the new bumper, he seemed to like that.

That was Caballo! Passed him a couple times since then around Farm-town.

On to the next build phase! Starting to work underneath a bit more to gain a little clearance, beef things up for more wheeling and for 35s when the 33s are worn down.

Ordered a few things to work on over the next couple of weeks as time allows: Front/rear Riddler diff covers, front shock relocation brackets/skids, rear shock relocation brackets/skids, adjustable rear track bar (needed to accommodate the beefier diff cover), rear sway bar links (due to the higher relocation bracket).

Will be interesting as I have to hack off the rear mounts with a sawzall to install the relocation brackets. Measure once, cut twice, right? It provides about 1.5" - 2" inches of additional clearance and skids the rear control arms and shock mounts. Those rear shocks hang down sooooo low!

Next few weekends are busy but most of the above could be done in a some quick hits after work. The rear brackets will need a Saturday though for sure.

Also need to find a welder and then will add c-gussets to the front axle.

Once I'm closer to the time of larger tires, I'll regear from 3.73 to 4.56 (maybe 4.88?)

Would still like to do a day trip to Gilbert before the snow flies if anyone is interested! Would be a long day but doable.
