Whayes! Great writeup. I have only begun my journey. I want to improve the wheels and tires of my 10th Anniversary unlimited, but don't want to add a lift kit. (afraid of warranty issues down the road).

Thanks for the info! I am ordering some of those handles and that phone mount. I really think the wheels look good how you have them set up. Just an fyi. I have the rugged ridge wheels which have a similiar concept. But you can buy "rash rings" (what I call them) that bolt in along the rim for some protection offroad. If your wheel company doesn't make them, I am sure that you could have 4 machined pretty cheaply if you wanted to protect those wheels when you go offroad. Essentialy, you could remove the plastic spacers, install the ring and mount it with the same screw to secure it. Or you could stop by the hardware and get a second set of "buttonhead" screws that would be less likely to get snagged. Here is a pic of the green painted optional ring installed. Normally without this ring, my screws were silver and just screwed into the outside of the wheel as an accent also.

Upgrade from 130N to Media Center 430N RBZ

Today I installed a Media Center 430N RBZ radio I purchased from a reseller on eBay for $400 shipped. The reseller was USAAccessories, and everything was exactly as pictured, and they promptly provided my AntiTheft code.

The install was really straightforward, even for me. I followed the instructions and pictures from this JK Forum thread and the advice found on this Wrangler Forum thread for my purchase and install.

What a nice upgrade! My uConnect worked flawlessly; I didn't even have to set up my phone again. I activated Sirius over the internet and was ready to go in just a few minutes. The USB port in the console still works, too.


Here's a picture of my new radio product code and build date (280th day of 2011, I think)




And the back. A note: even though the dot on the back is green, the buttons on this unit have blue backlighting.

And, finally, the finished install. Notice the Jeep logo

I love my ring protectors.



I took it to Rausch and went rock crawling for the weekend. The rings held up beautifully, all of them had the paint scratched off, but the wheel itself had 0 damage. So they were well worth the $28 I paid for each.

What kind are those rims!? And where do you buy them with the rings and how much were they I've been trying to find out for so long now haha

I didn't evaluate the shipping separately. I just looked at the total cost of approximately $70. For me, it was worth every penny.

I believe you. It looks nice! But if you look at the product history, they accept lower bids, and in this day and age where I need all the mod money I can get, saving $10 might eventually add up to that spiderweb shade I want so badly.

The Wheels are Rugged Ridge 17x9 satin black. The ring protectors are also made by Rugged Ridge and exclusive to this wheel. The protectors run $28 and come powdercoated semi-glossy black. I primed and painted them Red. I wasn't to concerned with the finish, although they did come out really good, because I knew that I was going to trash them.

If anyone has done that and has feedback, that would be great.

So, thanks again for welcoming me into the forum, and for allowing me to share. Im loving this Jeep more than I imagined!

Can I ask how your bikini shade worked out for you to set up? How does it secure around the roll bar? If it's like mine, the part behind both drivers and passenger seat is nothing but a big sound pod. Does it wrap around that somehow?

Yes. This was absolutely the hardest part of the install (with the hard top still on), and there are no instructions to help. You're left to figure things out on your own.

I can't take pictures because of the hard top, but I'll try to describe what I did.

There are four straps to secure around the sound bar. The two corner straps arrived with the spider balls already looped thru the grommet, with the spider ball end the furthest away from the strap. I wiggled the spider balls thru the gap between the hard top and sound bar, then I wrapped it around the roll bar and wedged it in the gap between the sound bar and roll bar. It's been holding tight and secure.

For the middle straps, I think they want the grommet of the strap to align with the hole for the freedom top bolts, then secure it with the spider ball using the same bolt hole and wrap it around the sound bar. I didn't do that. I slipped the spider ball strap up through the sound bar using the gap behind the freedom bolt hole. I used a coat hanger to fish the spidershade strap and spiderball strap through the space between the hard top and the sound bar. This allows me to continue to reinstall the freedom top bolts without removing the spidershade.

It's really difficult to describe, and I probably didn't do a very good job.

Reading your thread was just great. Really enjoyed it. Just like you, I'm not a too handy either but iv forced myself to learn so I could really appreciate everything I do to my jeep. You have a nice looking jeep and continue the spending and hard work lol it makes us all feel better when we're not the only ones letting our accounts take a beating.

Just this weekend, I received my JKini SpiderwebShade from Jason at Krawl Off-Road. Other than the video on the website, these shades come with zero instructions. Since Im not very handy, this install was hard for me as I was left to figure things out on my own.

I finally prevailed, and the end result is very worth it. The shade really does make it more comfortable running with the freedom panels removed, and Im very pleased with it.




In the back, Ive removed the worthless rear seat and stowed it in the garage. The Quadratec cargo liner is awesome. I originally tried the WeatherTech version, but it was designed to fit only behind the rear seat (which isnt very far in the JK). The Quadratec version beats it to death, and is a much better value IMHO.

Love your detailed mod review! I am considering getting a Jkini from Jason at Crawl for my 2013 2-door Jk. Do you leave your Jkini on when you put the freedom panels (WITH INSULATION PANELS) back on? Thanks, Sue

Was a super read from beginning to end. I can honestly say if I saw that color on the Jeep lot I would have picked it over black. Am I really saying that? Love that dark cherry red. Really rich looking and goes great contrasting with the black wheels, etc.

All of your mods were very tastefully done and well thought out. You gave me a lot of great ideas for my 2013 JKU.

Thanks again for sharing. Can't wait to see your future mods.
