OK. I thought I was done with her. Maybe time to sell and start a new project. Then it came to me. Why not fab a rack. Something like a pickup rack . So I drew a couple pics and the guy who did my roll bar loved the one I picked out ! So it goes in on Thursday! It will be welded to flat stock and will bolt on to the existing holes in side rails! Hopefully we'll have it done buy Sunday ! Then off to powdercoat!

Sketching skill aside (j/k), that looks very cool! ;-)

Do you think the tub rails are strong enough to support the rack and any load on said rack? Seem like more support is needed at the mount point.

Will you have any front support as well? That's a decently-size cantilever for the rails to support.

Looking forward to seeing it complete.

Drawing isn't one of my best features!! The tub rails are option one. We would have to maybe add flat stock to the bottom as well. Sort of sandwich it. Our second option is to offset to the floor. I left the seatbelt anchor bolts in place. As for the cantilever, time will tell. We talked about a support to the windshield and relocating the led light to the rack. Or even shortening it a bit. This is sort of a learn as u go project!

Very, very cool!

I only have some design critique... so feel free to ignore what follows:

Not to take away from this project in any way, but if you tweaked the design a bit, it could look more like it belongs on the Jeep. The two vertical supports look a little out of place since they are so straight. If the one next to the cab flowed with the curve of that cab, and then curve the rear supports similarly, it would really make it look less boxy.

Of course, I have no idea if that would compromise the load capacity of the rack, or if the equipment needed to make those types of bends is more specialized than what is typical.

I'm just looking at the visual aspects of this.

It's still a great project!

Thanks mgola!!
It was my decision to keep them straight. Not sure why. I guess I just thought of it for the utility purpose and didn't really go for the visual! I know what you mean though! I do think it will blend better once the black krinkle coat is on it. I'm also taking my spare up higher (I can raise it almost 5") to shorten the gap in the back..

Ok, Heres the Jeep now. Going to start a de-build :cwm13: you might say? Right now i feel it looks like a 4x4 parts store ad! Going minimal. Shedding large bumpers, changing tires wheels etc. want to lighten it up a bit. Anybody in the NEPA area watch the craiglist!!!!

Let the De-build begin!!
First, lose the heavy rear bumper and tire carrier. BFH time! (excuse the salt, that time of year!)

Fooling around with a pre runner look. Looking into tire carriers that will fit the bed. Also ordering river raider crusher corners. Their the only ones who make them to order without the hinge cut outs if you like. Tire looks a bit lost. The 35's will fill it better!

Cool idea. Are you keeping the Pintlers or going with something else?

Not sure yet! I just ordered custom River Raider crusher corners to hide the tailgate hinge indents and the warrior product bed tire holder. Budget took a good dent!
