So I have decided that I want the Metal Cloak 4.5" Game Changer lift. Being that I live in the desert I need to move pretty good and fast on the long bumpy roads out here. But I have a question on the wheels and tires that only yall with experience can answer for me. I want WIDE thick tires with a WIDE stance. As wide as I can get and still be able to offroad safely. The wife and i want nice, cool looking jeeps, with the benefit of off reading as well. We both agreed that we like the Nitto Mud Grapplers 37x1350x18, and the wife likes the 35x1250x18 on these wheels- Moto Metal 18"x10", 4.56 backspacing, -24 offset. So the questions are these; #1 will we be good to desert offroad and rock crawl. #2 will these tires be too large for the Jeeps 3.6l engine and transmission. #3 will the rims stick out further than the tires? I hate that look.
The price of 37s and/or HEAVY tires like the nittos isn't so much the initial price of tires as it is proper gears, ball joints, gussets, truss, axle shafts, drag links, tie rods, unit bearings, etc that all wear out quickly with the extra size/weight. Be prepared to modify/replace all of those in fairly short order. So budget another 5-7k on top of the lift/tire/wheel costs to run 37s.
^ Speaking only from my experiences in 50k miles on 37s.
You'll also need more backspace, either a different wheel choice, spacers, or deal with some rubbing.
FWIW The wife's new Jeep on light 35s drives much better and is not causing parts to fail at such a high rate. I always recommend 35s for the moderate wheeler.
