Mike only has a 2.5" lift, but no skids yet. Does any if the other jeeps in your crew run 2.5"? Do you think he will have an issue withOUT skids?

I think he will be fine 35" ,tires make difference as well..we won't do any 4 or 5 and will stay on easy 3..bypass around most stuff but he will be fine half of my group is not lifted ..stock skids do the job..I post some pics on easy stuff..I was stock in the pics..

Thanks, tabber!

I'm going to try my hand today at making my own clover patch window roll. I picked up the materials yesterday at Walmart for about $15. I'll have to take my windows out to test fitment, so you may hear me screaming in Florida if I can't get them back in. I've never had them out before!

I just made my own window storage setup today. Used two fleece blankets from the clearance rack ($2.88), one yard of black outdoor canvas ($4.97), a pool noodle (can't remember the price) and some Velcro I already had. So I'm in it for about $15.

I sewed the blankets together in the middle, with one longwise and one shortwise. That way there is enough fleece to cover the rear window. I covered the noodle with a scrap of fleece I had lying around and include it in the center of the roll to keep the windows from collapsing in on themselves and getting creased. I made a long tube for the bag with a track at the top to run a drawstring through (not done yet). I haven't figured out a handle/buckles for the outside yet, but I want to rig something so I can hang the bag from the bottom of my ACE cargo basket so it is up off the floor.

Thanks! Felt good to do one mod COMPLETELY on my own! I took the windows out, sewed the cover AND figured out how to get the windows back in and the top buckled down ALL BY MYSELF!

Uh, if you need hard top window cases you have other issues...

For what it's worth, if you can find twin sized fleece blankets, you won't have to turn them opposite directions. The Velcro I used to roll up the entire thing is called OneWrap or cable tie wraps. It's made to go around <whatever> and attach to itself. So you don't have to worry about which side is up, blah, blah, blah.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions!

Oh that is funny..about doing mod by yourself..well I had exhaust leak where they installed my exhaust spacer so I figured I would fix it myself..all good until I dropped the wrench while loosening the bolts and it hit me on the bone under my eye..so now I have had a black eye for over a week.. And with blood dripping down my face had to get help to pry the flange apart..it's fixed tho.

Yesterday we started the install of Mike's harken hoist in the garage. Mike and our son handled all the drilling and installation of the beams in the ceiling. I was the lucky one to get to learn how to tie those knots! Talk about a pain in the !finally found the right youtube video that I could follow along with. Probably can't tie another one today without watching the video again! LOL

One hint that I learned watching several videos that I couldn't follow: when you finish tying the retraced figured eight knot, it's recommended that you finish it off with an overhand knot. Harken's instructions left that part out. Being that it's hoisting a $2000 top, I'm all for adding whatever it takes to make sure those knots don't slip!

By the time I had the knots figured out it was about 8:30, so we didn't get the top hoisted last night. That's first on the plan for today. After we get his top off we're going to try on his RainGear cover and see how it fits. Then we are going to FINALLY going to get the soft top completely down on my jeep and take it for a little spin. Then we might come home and empty out another bay in the garage so we can both park inside.

I'll post some pictures of the hoist later tonight, in case anyone is interested.

I think they might have called at grass, but I haven't seen it in so long I'm not sure any more.

So, we decided that since the hoist didn't fall down over night that we'd try actually USING it today.

Here's the top getting ready to come off.

All hoisted up!

Half naked now!

And here's mine...

Getting ready to take the kids for a spin and go find some milkshakes!

Not one, but TWO topless jeeps!

Nice to see y'all running around topless out there. I gotta come check out the hoist. I need to steal plans to make one for my winch set up.

It's really nice having the hoist. I think Mike will see a lot more time topless now.

Since he's topless now, we finally got to try out his RainGear cover that I got him for Christmas. By the time it was installed it was dark, so I couldn't get any pictures. I'll try to get some in the morning before he leaves for work. It fits REALLY nice. Cinches down nice and tight, too. Even with all the wind tonight it wasn't moving at all, once we got it all hooked up and tightened down. Wind made it a to get it over the top of the jeep though!

Whenever you're ready to come over, just say the word!

I saw the pics in the thread, but didn't remember the count. I looked again and the status of the bunk houses is not as easy to see on the calendar - you have to look at each day individually. As of right now they are all still available; crisis averted

Starbrite, would you mind sharing a link to the knot video that you found most helpful? I hope to get around to installing my harken some day.
Hey fuzzy!

That was the one that I liked the best. I would also recommend adding an overhand knot when you finish. One of the other videos I watched said that the RF8 knot is NOT complete without it.

Tying the knots was just aggravating and annoying, but how easy it makes it to take the top off is DEFINITELY worth it!
