The RUBOKON Build

In the past I haven't posted build threads, but with a new 2014 Jeep JKUR and a fresh project, I feel it is a good time to start. To give a little background of past projects, the first "rubokon" started with a 2003 Jeep TJ Rubicon.

The finished product ended up being an Old Man Emu lift, ARB front bumper, Warn 9.5, IPF lights and BFG KM's.

Fast forward a few years to January 2007 and we got our hands on a JKUR. With a fresh and new platform (JK) we went right to getting the build going. A few of the pictures of when we brought it home.

The first mods included an AEV front bumper, Warn 9.5, BDS 4" suspension system, AEV Pintler wheels, BFG 37x12.5x17 Km's and cut Rubicon rails.

And how it sits currently with:

Metal Cloak 3.5" GC w/ 6PK Shocks
Metal Cloak Track bar
Poison Spider Trail Cage
AEV Front Bumper (updated)
Warn Zeon8 Winch
Factor55 Thimble
AEV Heat Reduction Hood
AEV Magnuson supercharger
AEV Rear Bumper
AEV Tire Carrier
AEV Hi-Lift Mount
AEV Fuel Caddy
JeeTops (front & rear)
AEV Savegre Wheels
BFGoodrich 35x12x17 KM2
ARB Fridge
sPod system
Sure I'm forgetting some things

And the new project, 2014 Jeep JKUR

Let the build begin!

First mods, install Teraflex 1" front spring spacers and paint drive shafts and axles with POR15 paint.

As I'm sure you know, the JK headlights are a complete joke. So a pair of JW Speaker 8700 evo's in chrome should do the trick.

Before:

During:

And the much brighter, but still "OEM" looking AFTER:

A close up shot of the light:

And the drive home that night that made it all worth it!

AEV Tubeless Front Bumper
AEV Winch Mount
AEV Rear Bumper
AEV Tire Carrier
AEV Fuel Caddy
AEV 3.5" SC Suspension System
AEV Pintler Beadlocks (argent)
Bfgoodrich 35x12.5x17 KM2 Tires
Warn Zeon 8s

And a few more goodies

Added some VisionX Optimus LED OEM Fog Light replacements.

A side by side comparison

And the finished product, clean and factory looking with great output with the 60* pattern.

Had some time off and a chance to go trough the trails in some snow today and snapped this pic. My favorite shot of the chrome J.W. Speakers to date.

Are the spacers used to level it?

Nice Jeep, how well do the spacers work for leveling the front? I have a new Jeep on the way and would like a solid and inexpensive level job. Another newb question, why do you need to paint the axles and drive shafts with POR15?

The Terraflex spacers work awesome for a $40 lift kit. They bring the front up to where it should be (level) and are easy to install. As far as painting the drive shafts, they rust immediately if not painted and become an eye sore.

Pic of Jeep with the Terraflex 1" Spacers:

What is your impression of the Magnuson supercharger? I realize it's on the 3.8 engine.

Looks good. Just curious why you changed wheels from the Pintlers to the Savegres?

When you do the AEV lift what do you do with the exhaust - spacers or Y-pipe?

Are you changing the front drive shaft too?

And how do you like the 6-pack shocks?

Completely made me fall back in love with the 3.8 after the nightmare with the gen 1 and 2 ripp systems. Smooth power, reliable and a very well designed piece.

After 7 years you have to change things to make it interesting haha, I prefer the AFE Y pipe system over spacers that could lead to issues down the road. After lifting hundreds of JK's we have found stock driveshafts to work great for 99% of builds. The 6 pak shocks work great, but I miss the ride quality of the AEV system and since this rubicon will be my daily driver, the AEV 3.5" is a no brainier.

Since some people have had issues with the allen hardware with the AEV beadlocks, I plan to swap out the hardware with ARP 12pt stainless bolts. Here is a sneak peak:
