Well, it looks like the stereo is the next mod. After our road trip to Northern Wisconsin, we decided it is in dire need of an upgrade. It kind of makes me mad, because I feel like I wasted not only the money on the premium stereo upgrade, but also the money on the connectivity package if I end up replacing the head unit.

Connectivity 'should' still be useful, even if you change the head unit. You just have to make sure you get the right wiring harness. I'm not the stereo genius, Mike is. I'm pretty sure connectivity gets you the steering wheel controls (plus the upgraded EVIC) and his steering wheel controls DEFINITELY still work with the new HU. I think the extra wiring harness was like $30.

Not saying it doesn't suck that you spent extra on something you are going to wind up tearing out. But I don't think it's quite as bad as you may have thought. Unless of course, you don't care about the steering wheel controls. I love them and use them all the time.

Sorry the system put a damper on your trip! I hope the rest of it was wonderful!

Turchman, what was the problem with the stereo? I am by no means an audiophile, but our system seems fine. I am losing my hearing though due to all the rock concerts as a kid.

I am really disappointed with the sound, there is just no definition to it. I think the frustrating part, is that we got the Beats system in our Charger and it is pretty impressive for factory. So I assumed (stupid) that I would be at least satisfied with the Jeep "premium" system. It seems like for an extra 200 or so dollars they could have done a much better job. We shouldn't have to stuff every crevice of our vehicle with pillow stuffing and deal with replacing all of the components in order to get get decent sound. If I ever get in an accident it's going to look like a pillow factory blew up.

Hey buddy, sorry to hear this. Sounds like you've read some of the threads about adding foam into the sound bar, woofer, etc. There is a ton of info out there from folks who have felt the same as you and what they've done. It is too bad the sound system is mediocre.

Hey, Turchman... You might also want to look into Dynomat, too. It will help with the sound some.

If you're interested, I can send you the list of components that Mike used when he replaced the sound system in his jeep.

Getting these installed tomorrow, too cold to do it, plus the place I am buying them from is doing the install for $150.

Now you'll have to figure out how to record and post before/after sound clips for us!

Well, I ended up switching to Rockford Fosgate speakers. So we ended up with 6 1/2" Rockford Fosgate Punch components up front and 6 1/2" Rockford 2 way coaxials in the soundbar. Powering this is a 300 x 4 Rockford amp coming off a PAC line out converter from the factory amp. We used dynamat and packed both the front speaker buckets and the sound bar with poly fill. I am very happy with the sound even with the factory sub. It is so much better than the Alpine system. Click image for larger version

When I first read your post I thought you put six more speakers up front and six in the sound bar and was thinking holy crap, you can probably hear Mrs. T's rig thumping' from a mile away!

Then realize you were talking the size not the quantity…doh! Shows how much I know about sound systems. Glad everyone is happy and that your next road trip will be much more enjoyable!

Thanks Steve, it is very nice. I may still replace the head unit, but it can wait until summer.

Rear seat recline mod done. I used 1/4" X 1" flat bar. It worked best to take it the bottom bolts first and then fold the seat bottoms up with bungees to get to the back bolts.

So you cut piece off a 1/4"x1" bar, drilled them and put them between the floor and the seats to recline the back seat? First I've heard of this, but it makes perfect sense. Is a 1/4" enough or would a 1/2 be better?

Yes, I think you could go 1/2". I was worried about losing too many threads on the bolts. I did add a washer to the flat bar on the three spacers on the seat back, but used just the flat bar on the four bolts on the floor.
