Here is my thread about the modifications I've already done as well as future mods planned for my JK Polar that I took delivery in December 2013. I'm not calling this a build thread since I'm really just modifying my Polar to be a self sufficient road machine. I'm a landscape and nature photographer and take several road trips a year that last from 1 to 3 weeks and need to be self sufficient during the day while out on photo shoots. Even for the day trips close to home I want to be able to go out all day and not have to return to town for anything other than to sleep. While out in the field my days usually start before sunrise and last till after sunset.
I will start from day 1 and work forward with what I have done so far which honestly hasn't been that much due to the weather. So here goes with delivery day (12/06/2013)! It wasn't the best day to take delivery of a new vehicle but I guess fitting for a Jeep!
Ha Ha StarBrite! I haven't gotten to that point in the timeline for the tailgate table.
The ACE sliders are still laying in the garage floor and I haven't ordered the Rampage Recovery Bumper yet. I'm sure the bumper and winch will be the last of my mods.
I can already see that I'm going to need a slight lift to offset the weight I'm adding to the Jeep. I'm going to be pushing the GVWR of my Jeep with all of my modifications.
And yes, there will be a HAM radio very soon...... :thumb:
Well, if you still haven't installed the sliders, then we should plan a day and have everyone over and the installation can be a group project! What do you think?
I see you didn't do a lift yet. I have a brand new 14 jk and and am looking at putting AEV savegre's on it along with duratracs. I'm still debating if I wanna do 285/70r17 or 315/70r17. What kind of room do you have...do they rub at all when you turn sharply?

No rub at all on turns, and there is a sharp u turn getting to the entrance of our apartment complex. I did however get some rub from the back while flexing it out on our acreage in Oklahoma. Nothing big but was surprised when I heard the noise.
BTW, thanks for your comments. I have a lot more to do in the next 45 days before my next road trip. :thumb:
StarBrite, does anyone else have anything to install? I don't want you to plan a party just for my ACE Sliders! But I would be more than happy to participate in a larger wrenching party as long as Glo is off on that weekend. I just haven't installed them yet because it has been to damn cold! :atomic:
I am getting closer to getting a lift. Star, and myself need to extend vent lines still and we have a hitch and wiring to do for star. 042 might have some more to do as well. I keep trying to get another member to join us, but his wife won't let him out of her sight. LOL I think she is afraid of him getting some expensive ideas.
Okay guys and girls, we know we are available the weekend of March 8. The next weekend (15th) is the Texas Professional Photography Association convention and that weekend is out for me. March 10th Glo gets her schedule for the next 6 weeks and we will know something beyond March 15th at that point. But please y'all, just schedule your wrenching party and we will try to make it. If nothing else I will attend without Glo in the event she is working on the weekend you schedule. :thumb:
I forgot about the decals!!!! December 23rd I removed the lame Polar hood decals and replaced it with this.
Then I decided I didn't like the font choice so I ordered new ones and January 14th replaced the old POLAR decals with new ones as well as adding flag decals.
Got my splash guards installed a couple of weeks ago, FINALLY!!!!!! :atomic: With my Duratracs I needed these installed really bad. Now the side of my Jeeps stays much cleaner. :thumb:
:lmao: I hear you StarBrite, but I'm one of those that prefers my Jeep clean. I'm okay with beach sand and back roads dust, but not mud.......
Ordered my Rampage Recovery front bumper from 4WD.com while it was on sale. The timing was perfect because Friday I sold the 5 original tires and wheels that were on my wife's 2013 JKU Sahara. I had upgraded her to the ones that came on my JK Polar.
It was $535 plus tax and free shipping. They called me this afternoon and said it would be in tomorrow. We made a quick trip down to Kerrville and will head back tomorrow, then Thursday will be in Oklahoma so told them I would pick it up later in the week.
This was a spur of the moment trip that happened because I finally found a decent price on a hotel room but we had to change our schedule. Our original plan was to come for Friday and Saturday nights but we either couldn't find a room or they were double the usual price. I guess spring break and SXSW really jacked things up.
So are you from the Fredericksburg area? We passed thru Fredericksburg area several times yesterday and today and will again in the morning on our way home. Forgive me, I'm still learning where everyone is from! Was doing photography recon getting ready for bluebonnet season. Did the Willow City loop, plus several other roads that are known for great bluebonnet fields. On our way back tomorrow we are checking the Llano area as well. We still haven't checked out the Bastrop and Brenham area yet. We, or I, may be back to check out those 2 places before full blown wildflower season. Will be back for however many days are needed when everything starts to bloom. We can't wait to meet everyone and there will be plenty of opportunities. :thumb: Will meet you soon!!!
Just got the call that my Rampage Recovery front bumper is in!!! Unfortunately I have to make a road trip to Oklahoma today but tomorrow will be a great day........... :thumb: I guess I had better decide today what I'm going to do about a winch. LOL
