2000 TJ Restoration - Daddy/ Daughter Project

Hey guys and gals,

I joined up here a few months back and just wanted to say thanks to all that post on here.

I have been popping in each day between meetings checking on different threads to get some TJ insight. My last build was 15 years ago on my CJ and just recently purchased a 2000 TJ for my oldest daughter. Peeking in on the threads has given us some great insight on what others have xperienced with the TJs.

We purchased this 2000 TJ about 3 months ago for $ 5,000. Its an auto sport with AC. Has 149 on it with a Jasper 4.0 thats logged about 28,000 commuter miles. Overall in great shape, aside from the guy hitting a deer. Oh well , nothing a new grill and hood cant fix right ? Also needed a little frame love... no biggie... I can weld , but wasnt up for cutting into the frame so I had someone do it for me.

We took it from there and have been enjoying a great daddy daughter project.

Heres a few pics of how far we got in the last month.

MUCH more to come !!

Yeah we had it out before we started the project. Had to get it covered in mud !

Took it to the local 4x4 shop, Had them cutout and replace the frame section that was starting to show signs of rust coming thru.

Then did the 3.25" RC lift. Yeah Yeah I know... should have done the OME. I did plenty of reading and decided to give this a shot. Cant get hurt too bad for $ 375. After the drive home , and a few other short test rides... Yeah... ummmm... OME SHOCKS... ADD TO CART !! I'll give it a little more time to break in but I'm seeing these 2.2 nitros on craigslist in the near future. This is mainly going to be a DD.

Thanks Bardo.

Next... Body

We found a pair of 06 front fenders that were in perfect condition to replace what we knew was rot under the diamond plate that the PO installed. We also found a guy parting out several jeeps and got a hood and grill from an 01 that were also in great shape. Gotta love Craigslist !

We spent a weekend pulling off the old... painting the eng compartment side of everything ( Eastwood paint is great stuff ! ) getting the new parts on and stripping down the rest of the jeep to get it ready for the paint booth. Not a big fan of the green.... Cosmo Blue anyone ?

That's a great father/daughter project. She'll love it when it's done, and know how how to wrench on it too... Welcome to the forum
