So after a year and a half, of ownership, I'm going to finally take the time and document what changes I've made and what I intend to make to my 2004 LJ. About half have been entirely inconsequential to this point, but that's the way it goes. Save some, spend some, try not to get the fiancé too annoyed.
So to this point as per the picture (and one of my lovely offices) I'd done:
- Bought it
- Alpine head unit and infinity reference speakers all around
- Removed the milk jugs
- Acted as the bus for my coworkers when there is too much snow.
- Black Magic brakes (highly recommend)
And as of about 6 hours ago, I finally took the time to install a somewhat modified form of the OME Ultimate kit from Dirk at DPG. He knows what the heck he's doing and did not steer me wrong, and I couldn't recommend him more.
The before shots really don't do it justice as far as how low she sat, but it looked odd. The proportions weren't right and needed serious work to look acceptable. But, after 6 hours in the sun, it's getting there. Forgive the background, my jobsite ain't the prettiest.
It couldn't ride any better and is just an utter night and day improvement. I essentially asked Dirk to set it up like a pick up truck since I tow and carry a good bit, and it rides as such, but it's 100% what I wanted. It's quieter, smoother, and doesn't bounce like it used to. The kit was easy, straight forward, and I likely could have gotten it done in 4 hours if I had a second set of hands. The only part that gave me fits today was my oil change since I was dog tired and spilled half a quart but that's the way it goes I suppose.
And that's bringing it up to just about current, until I can get these on. $120 (total) craigslist for 4 rims plus a fifth with unused spare is hard to pass up:
