2005 LJ Build

Well here's how my build begins. I bought this 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited on 01/14/2014. Its a Dark Blue color with a hard top and just had over 66K in the ODO. The PO had already installed some 3" tube style front and rear bumpers, rocker panel guards w/rub rails, rear corner guards w/rub rails and KMC XD series Enduro 15" rims w/ Mastercraft Courser AXT 31x10.5's. I think the rear corner guards are Mopar parts but IDK.

Well I had been looking for a little more bass than the base factory system had. I was wandering through Trade It and found a Kicker 10" sub preloaded box and Rockford Fosgate that amp that power matched the Kicker sub. All in great shape for less than 100 bucks. With the wiring kit and Line Output Converter it was less than 200 altogether. I mounted the amp just behind the roll bar behind the drivers seat. It doesn't get the way for the people sitting the rear and while not hidden it doesn't bring much attention. The sound is great, I keep it at a reasonable level but it hits surprisingly hard when turned up all the way.

I just got done installing a BDS 2" lift. It came with new coils and shocks plus I added there steering stabilizer and blue shock boots. after shipping it was around 550 straight from them. The lift went on pretty easy even though I haven't done one before. I just unbolted the sway bar took off the old shocks and was able to take the OE coils right out. I used a crow bar under pass. side coil after the top was in its seat to compress it about and 1" to get the bottom in. On the drivers side I did a dumb thing and used a jack to lower the axle enough to get the coil in. in doing so I bent the front drive shaft over the trans. skid mount. I didn't figure that out until I had already bought a TC drop kit to stop vibration. After I got the drive shaft fixed I was able to take the TC drop off and didn't have any vibrations. It rides just like factory and fits the 31's much better plus flexes much better. I can't wait to take it through its paces offroad.

Just checking suspension clearances but ran out of jack before I saw any problems. BTW the front sway was disconnected. I measured 16" from ground to bottom of tire and the suspension wasn't fully flexed.

Little update. I installed some light mods. I had an led waterproof underhood lighting kit laying around i took off my Camaro and installed it under the rocker area for a underbody glow look. I think it turned out good, its a multi-color kit but green seems to be the brightest.
My headlights seemed a bit dim so i replaced them with Hella H4 E-Codes. After a bit of adjusting they are much better than the old headlights. While i was adjusting the headlights i found that the PO had forced a H1 bulb into one of my stock foglights that take H3 bulbs. I can't believe that someone would be so lazy but fixed now.

Well it's oil change time already. I installed a Autometer oil pressure gauge because i didn't like the on/off style factory gauge. With the oil that was in it when i bought it i found that at normal cruse it would stay around 50psi and down to around 10-12psi idle. I changed it to some Amsoil Signature Series
0w-30 and a K&N oil filter. I sent the oil off to Blackstone and according to them the old oil was at a 5w-30 viscosity range but was in good health so thats good. With the new oil the oil pressure stayed the same but the engine runs noticeably smoother and revs alot easier especially when cold.

Summer time sweet. Thanks to another member i took off the hard top until next winter and bought a gently used soft top for this summer. The frame needed some TLC but i got it all fixed up good. I love riding with the top down and do it as often as i can. I have a subwoofer that i installed in the rear cargo area (gotta love an LJ) along with a small tool box with my recovery strap and towing hitches. I was worried that when i park my Jeep with the top down that someone would steal my stuff, so i made a small top and bolted it over the rear cargo area. I disabled my rear seat tumble feature so that would act as the rear wall i used a piece of 1/2" thick wood i cut to fit and used some 3" PVC tubing as spacers sence my subbox is a little tall. I used carriage bolts and secured the top to the body and the rear tailgate locks so anything i put in the rear can be locked. Cost me less than 45 bucks at Lowes and is custom fit by me haha.
