It's a little late starting my build page since I bought my TJ in October, but oh well. He it is when I bought it View attachment 1068505
Had a 4" Pro Comp suspension lift with 33"x12.5" Dick Cepek Radials and Pro Comp rims. Also originally had a Ranch Hand front bumper
That winter, I decided to part with the Rand hand to get a matching rear bumper and carrier. As you see I went to ARB. The Ranchhand is available for sale.
This February I decided to order a Warn M8000 winch, Magna Flow exhaust, AFE CAI, Bilstein 5100s, Pro Comp steering stabalizer, and smittybilt nerf bars.
Well the material between the normal GEAR seat and the ACU GEAR covers are slightly different if I read correctly. That and I think some more pouches(reason the prices are different).
I think one of the reasons have such a problem with them is because they made the covers too tight around the seats. I don't know how to exactly explain it but these covers need a little "leeway" otherwise they rip. And as you sit in them they stretch a little and almost have a break in period.
Personally I like my covers alot and haven't had a problem with them, in fact they have gotten more and more comfy, and no rips....yet.
Good news my bump stop puck did not need replacing, just a new bolt so everything is good.
My thoughts on new springs from earlier in thread have changed. Pulled my current springs out and they seem to still have some life so I think i will give it a little time before replacing.
Still looking to replace my tires and rims, but need to sell to help pay for a new set
Finally getting some more cash today, a comfortable $500 to spend. Any ideas or suggestions? -Here are things Im considering; rims, tires, brakes (still decent), rack(not an HD rack), springs, bumper mounted lights...
Okay I've decided to get a pair of IPF 968 Series Driving Lights w/ Stone Guards for my bumper and some much needed ARB D-Rings for both the front and rear bumpers.
I have some more spending money but I'm going to go ahead and save it for the next pay check and hopefully order some new rims
Quick question; how much of a transfer case drop is needed with a 4" lift? I have a drop already, It just seems sometimes it's been dropped alot lower than needed
How big of a lift? I just wonder because apparently the drop can make the skid plate an easy place to get caught on rocks. Do you think i should consider different CAs?
Okay so I was going to order some IPF lights and D rings originally, however, I have a trip to Colorado planned in the not too near future. Before actually doing any trails, I wanted to downsize from 15x10 rims to 15x8. Found out they had a sweet deal on black Pro Comp 15x8 7069s rims and went ahead and ordered them.
They will be in tomorrow, however, I need to decide between 33x10.5 tires or what I currently have, 33x12.5. I need the new tires anyways for stronger sidewalls over the thin walled Dick Cepek Radials I currently have, however I want as much flare coverage as possible with stock Rubicon flares. Any ideas on what to choose, guy I talked with made absolutely no sense to me so I'm putting my trust in fellow Wrangler owners. Thanks
Side note: Next paycheck will for sure be towards the IPF lights and D rings!

Definitely 33x12.50R15 - I've had good luck with my MT/R Kevlar but you'll need more than $500 for tires if you go that route. I'm also a fan of the BFGoodrinch KM2, they wear well and are easily balanced. They perform well on the trail but some reviews say the sidewalls aren't as tough as Duratrac's or MT/R's (although the comparison to the MT/R isn't really fair).
Funny thing, you will probably think I'm stupid. I like the Metal Cloaks on other people's Jeeps however I wouldn't like the look on mine, just not the look I'm going for I guess
I'm really leaning towards the 10.5s. I feel like they will suite everything I want, even though Texas doesn't have much for snow but I don't mud which should be good for my case
I find the situation ironic considering I'm about to buy new tires, however, this flat may have just ruined my chances of selling the rims and tires as a set
I don't recommend Dick Cepek tires...they suck, 2nd flat in 6 months. The sidewalls are pathetic

Well I pulled the trigger on my tires and decided with 33x10.5s rather than the 12.5s. I have them mounted on the rims and will install the set in the morning.
Update on my flat: my flat had a huge cut in the sidewall, impossible to plug so basically I have no way to sell my tires as a set. The rims however are in great shape and will find themselves on the for sale section of the forum soon

Installed with the stickers still showing and my dogs posing

Here is the final product in a classic Jeep pose strutting some new shoes.
Went ahead and test drove and these BFGs ride like a dream. Definitely some improvements in handling and stability and best of all; great quality tires that actually allow my flares to do what they were made for. I can't wait to test these in Colorado on some next month

Well now that I have alot better tires for my up coming trip to Colorado, it looks like the last thing I absolutely "need" before I go is some D rings that I entertained earlier in the thread.
Any suggestions for D rings? Normally when I'm in doubt, I buy ARB, however I know there are others to pick through, like Warn which I know has a pretty good reputation. I refuse to touch Smittybilt though.
It will probably come down to price comparison and such. I just know I can get 3/4" ARB D rings rated at 10000lbs for about $10 a piece
There's another rating for those, fracture point. That's when somebody snaps the d-ring without slowly moving forward first to tighten the recovery strap. Because their molded you need to be concerned with that. Most companies don't show that rating unless you're buying industrial parts from rigging companies.
Personal preference? Always double the pull weight + fracture. So if you're pulling 4500 buy a 18-20K rings. You'll probably end up with 1" rings though. That's the safest way to go.
^Thanks! That's something I completely didn't know. Any recomendations for brand choices? My only thing I'm worried about is wether or not my D ring mounts on my bumper will fit a 1" ring
Ouch! They really stab the wallet. Looks though like easily one of the toughest D rings on the market though. Thanks for the advice though. I'll probably place an order once I get back from California.
They are very expensive. My thought is this, why spend all this money for heavy duty clevis brackets, heavy duty winches and gussets all to put the weakest part of your recovery at your highest point of force?
Just be careful.
