Here she is as she sits now. I've had it since February and it came with a lift and other goodies on it already. The other day I just had new 33 inch BFG KO2 tires put on and have to say I love the look of them. This summer I plan on tackling some frame rust prevention by sanding it down and coating it inside and out. My long term goal is to run metal cloak control arms and rancho shocks. This build will be fairly slow as I am still in highschool but it should come together at some point.
It was finally nice out this weekend after a week of rain so I had a chance to take the top off. Also had my right front turn signal go out so I replaced it with a Sylvania 3157 bulb.
Today I took my d-rings into metal shop at school and sand blasted them to clean them up for paint and then painted them silver so they stand out more. I like the way it looks.
Yesterday I went to a dirt road by my house to mess around and take some cool pictures. Also finally got a full size spare yesterday, now I just need a swing out tire carrier. I plan on getting the dirtworx carrier.
The other day I removed the rear carpet to start prepping for bedlining the inside so I don't have to use the carpet anymore. Someone previously bedlined sections of the floor but I'm going to sand it down and redo it all. While I was at it I also sanded and bedlined one of my flares that had peeling in the old bedliner.
I decided to try rustoleum bedliner since the floor won't take much abuse but we'll see how it holds up. I started with the rattle can but had to do most with the roll on stuff because every store around that carries it was out of the spray. It looks pretty good and I'll see how it dries but it applies fairly easily. One thing with the spray that I noticed is it clogs pretty quick and I couldn't use all of the can because of this
Today I picked up more rustoleum spray bedliner and did the other three flares so they all matched and now they all look brand new. I just sanded them down and then resprayed them. The bedliner in the tub dried up nicely and came out with a nice finish.
It's been a while but school is out and I am busy with work so here's an update. Over the past few weeks I have been continuing the bedlining process. I finished the passenger floorboard and under the center console so all that is left is the drivers side floor board. I also washed off my hardtop since it was dusty from sanding the tub. The cart I built from the plans on the forum here is also working great.
I just finished cleaning the throttle body out and wow there is a noticeable difference. I didn't think it would do much but it starts and idles smoother and is more responsive. When I took it off the underside of the butterfly valve was pretty coated in grime.
I just took my fenders off last night to sand, primer, and paint them. I'm gonna be using Krylon Fuison for mine because I've heard good stuff about it, but let me know if yours chips or how well its durability is! Had to go fenderless today and maybe tomorrow too lol
Well yesterday my engine started ticking pretty loud and I'm not sure what it is. My friend is a mechanic and I was checking things and diagnosing common problems with no dice he thinks valve train and my original thought was a lifter but not sure. I hope it isn't a broken piston skirt but I'm going to get it in the shop where my friend works and see. Here's a link to a video of the noise https://youtu.be/riyKEArA08c
I took the Jeep into the shop today and they're going to look at my motor and see what's wrong at this point they think it's a lifter but i'll know what the issue is tomorrow when they take it apart
Well it doesn't look too good for my engine. The shop has checked all the valve train and it isn't that so now they are going to pull the pan and look for piston skirt pieces. They said it could also be a wrist pin so the repair is going to be expensive.
Heard from the garage today and they found broken piston skirt pieces in the oil pan. Luckily though nothing else was damaged and the cylinder wall is fine so they're going to pop a new piston in and I should be ready to go. Its been tough not having my daily driver to get to work so I'll be glad to have it back.
That's good news right? Could have been worse for sure. I have a stuck lifter that has been that way for some time. It knocks when I start the jeep but settles down shortly after. I will eventually have to deal with it but for now I'm just driving it. Nice build.
I visited the garage today and looked at the Jeep. They're taking everything apart and inspecting every part to make sure its all good and nothing else is damaged. Funny thing they noticed though is that the motor was just recently apart the head gasket and oil pan gasket look brand new and they said the bearings have recently been replaced so that was strange. But they said when they get the parts it should be back soon so I can't wait. I miss driving my Jeep everyday.
Just talked to the garage and they have all the parts for my engine and will be putting it all back together soon so it wont be long till it's back. Also I just placed an order for a dirtworx bumper and tire carrier so I can finally carry my spare so I can't wait till that gets here.
Great so far I ordered mine by emailing him because I wanted it custom without the hitch and with the added jack mount and he replied to all my emails within two hours. Then when my order was ready he sent a PayPal invoice and it was ordered couldn't have been simpler.
Went to the garage to see the Jeep and I'm actually getting a set of 6 new pistons and rings because they got a better deal that way so they are rehoning the cylinders and I should have it back Tuesday. Here's a shot of it.
I finally got my Jeep back and she is running great, better than it ever has. I got to keep the piston that broke as an expensive souvenir. Luckily it was a nice day and I have off work so I could cruise around with the top down.
The other day when I was out on some dirt roads messing around the Jeep stopped shifting into 4 low so I looked at the linkage and realized it was bent so I straightened it out but the Jeep still wont go into 4 low. If I disconnect the linkage it does just fine. I did the adjustment with the bolt on the linkage but it still wont so I'm adding a cable shifter to my list of future projects along with many others.
