I put this in the TJ section simply for the fact it will be pulled by a TJ. For 5 or more years, I have talked/dreamed about having a matching trailer.

I'll start with a long bed Comanche back half. It will be more of a jack of all trades, master of none type trailer. It's a fairly decent base. I picked it up at a local junkyard. Pretty straight body with nothing more than a bit of surface rust. Down here we don't quite have the cancer other parts of the country has to deal with.

The dent I want to eventually deal with.

Even the tail lights are in decent shape.

Just one small crack at the top corner.

I am definitely subscribing to this too.

Also, War Eagle!

I just dropped the trailer of at the welder. The tongue will look better than my drawing :D He's also gonna drill holes and plug weld the tubing inside the Comanche frame. It should be overkill, but rather have it that way.

He is using 3"x6" tubing and the pink highlighted will be 2 1/2" square tubing so I can slip different hitches into it. He's also welding on a trailer jack. Got everything for $380 out the door.

I went and picked up a few things while the trailer is at the welder's.
I grabbed two pins keyed to the same key. Just one less thing to have on the keychain.

Also grabbed a tow eye receiver to go along with the pintle/ball hitch I already had laying around.

I'm not nieve enough to think it can't be stolen, just trying to make someone work for it of they must steal :D

When not attached to a vehicle, I will pull the receiver so that it's just a tube hanging out front.

Looks nice. What's the estimated weight of that thing when all is said and done?
From the web, the curb weight on a 2wd long bed was 2,900lbs with the 4wd being 3,300lbs(so maybe I'm at 1,000lbs). I'll lose a good bit of weight when I ditch the D35 for a trailer axle, but I honestly have no clue. I'll try to find a weigh station when I get it back from the welder.

Here's a diagram of an articulation hitch, very cheap to build. Regarding looking for an axle see I you can find a 5er that's being parted out. I found a 5k axle w/ brakes for $250! Good luck!
I assume that's like the $50 DIY one jscherb designed? The bolded part, I'm not sure I follow. And the 5K axle sounds like a good deal. I figure a 3,500lb with 10" electric brakes will be more than enough.

I have been talking to a guy about this camper shell. It'll be a few more weeks before I get the trailer back from the welder. When I get it back, I'll ride over and see how it fits. It's from a long bed S-10, which I've read they fit in the Comanche.

Since I haven't picked up the trailer yet, I've been thinking about kayak transport if I can get a camper shell. I'm leaning towards the Hauler Racks from Lowes for $150ish. They have a 300lb load capacity and I think it'll be more than enough for a few kayaks.
