Joes jeep.

Hey everyone I figured if just do a build thread instead of a bunch of annoying little threads!

I've owned two jeep before this one but it's been a while since I've owned a tj.

For the moment I'm calling it joes jeep for the lack of a better name. No appreciate any suggestions on the name! Just none of the overused ones please! Like big red, demon, etc lol.

Anyways I bought this jeep about a month back

It's a 1998 tj sport with 129,000 on the clock. It's a 4.0 5speed.

When I bought it it had brand new 31s on it.

Brand new besttop

Kickass set of hids

And a DVD player radio.

Sorry all I seem to have are snowy pics because we've had a heck of a winter here in Indiana with the -40 temps and all. Lol jeep has started every time!!!!

I made a custom behind the taillight antenna mount. I'm a metal fabricator by trade.

I also went ahead and ordered the rugged ridge dash mount to hold my cobra 19. For 27 bucks I couldn't beat it!

How'd you run the coax cable back there and to the antenna?

I haven't ran the cable through the jeep yet but as far as getting it in the jeep I just routed it through the rear window zipper. I may eventually find a way to run it in behind the taillight somehow

Did you actually get the dash mount in your jeep yet? I ordered one. It doesn't fit my jeep at all.

I put a cage in my so I can't tell you why it wouldn't fit lol. I believe you need to cut plastic to get it in there nice. Probably have to remove that windshield frame plastic or something like that.

Well my rugged ridge cb mount showed up! And like a lot of others it didn't quite fit right. But with a little bending/tweaking it fits fine

It looks pretty good! I love the way it mounts, it's totally convenient since you can have your right hand free while shifting and all that.

I guess they didn't want to pay the money to bend it or weld two pieces for it to fit right, but it's nothing a vise and a few good tugs won't fix.

With my mount there was about a half inch of space in between the top mounting hole. I was thinking of just putting a few washers in there but once my cage was in It was unusable,

Yeah I didn't like any aftermarket antenna mounts so I made one lol.

I may be willing to make a few if you and some other people really wanted one

Well I have an unfortunate update!! My jeep is currently stranded at my family's property as I went to leave on Tuesday I hit the brakes and pop! No brakes. The passenger front brake line rusted through.

So today it's getting towed to a shop to get all new brake lines bent up.

I was going to do it but time and weather won't let me and I need my jeep!! Lol I just feel fortunate that it didn't happen on a road. Hence why it's getting ALL NEW HARDLINES. Lol.

Pics to follow!!!!!

Ouch - same thing happened to my old '87 4-Runner. That was the last nail in its coffin. Sold it to a scrap yard and got my TJ (which I never plan on selling to anyone, much less a scrap yard, thus the difference between 'Yotas and Jeeps).

On a different note, keep us updated if you plan on making / selling some of those antenna mounts.

Thanks for the pity lol.

But as far as the antenna mounts go how much would you guys be willing to pay for them? I just have no idea where to price them.

Also who all would want one?

Well I've been thinking about getting my antennae mounted and everything as well. I would start with what it costs you to make and then add shipping plus what you think your time is worth. And if that number you come up with is too high for people to pay then I just wouldn't do it. But I'm interested in one as well. 👍

I appreciate the interest in the antenna mounts I'll start working on a price for you guys.

But some good news! Just got my jeep back from the shop all new hard nickel plated brakes lines for 388 bucks including tax! Great deal considering it's been hovering beetween -9 and 9 here in Indiana not including wind chill lol.

Needless to say I'm glad to have my jeep back!!

Last night I decided I was tired of the factory tow hooks so I went ahead and installed these larger hooks from tsc. Until I can afford to buy a front bumper ignore bumper looking cruddy it's winter and it's gonna be replaced eventually anyways lol

And while I was at steak and shake I had a little fun lol. I could've went higher lol

Well my radiator has been leaking since the day I got the jeep and it's slowly been getting worse. So today I decided I wanted an all aluminum radiator.

But.... I can't afford a 400 to 500 doallar high end one lol

So I decided to go with one of the cheap eBay all aluminum ones that has a 1 year defect warranty.

Pretty hard to pass up at 139.99 with free shipping!

Little late now but any of you guys have any experience with one of these radiators?

It's gotta be better than factory plastic right?
