Nice job. Are you going to port the intake before you re install it?

Cool I want to follow along. I think the 2.5 is a great little motor.

I wanted to put something alittle better back in but I didn't have enough money. And i agree the 4 banger is a good motor i dont need a big motor for what i do withnit anyway. Maybe when I'm old and retired I can do that. Haha this is costing me close to $1500 now.

Yes I ported the intake.

Anyone know If I need thread sealant on my front right head bolt ? It goes into a water jacket but was unsure if the gasket would keep it from leaking

While I haven't needed to do a TJ motor rebuild yet, I will say that rebuilding any motor is a great learning opportunity and ya get to know the machine that much better. The good thing is that TJ motors are not super complicated.

Any bolt going to water ought to be sealed with some sort of thread sealant. It will creep up the threads under pressure.

I just purchased a new long block assembly 2.5l, due to a cracked block from freezing after I was flushing the coolant to replace the radiator(didn't see the need to put new anti freeze in till I was done). Didn't want old dirt in the new radiator but I guess I don't have to worry about that any more

Well pistons are installed "junk piston compresser from autozone made me say a few bad words!!!" and timeing chain and tensioner on. Now time to goto the car wash and pressure wash some parts and finish some more today before I go back to the dungeon for the next 7 days!!!

Also I think I'm done shipping at autozone after today. I'm very unhappy with their quality of parts and tools.

I did! But my funds are low. Also I heard it doesn't do much for the 2.5 . I don't know anything about it though. If I woulda had more money I would have anyway.

I bent my pilot bearing shell putting it in... Can barely tell. All bearings still spin freely. Think it's a problem?

Since your rebuilding it, replace it. Better safe than sorry.

I'd have to agree! Prolly a lot easier to get a new one now while the engine is out than have it go bad quick and have to replace it while its under the hood

Or have it drag and you can't put it in gear because the trans mainshaft is turning with the clutch pedal depressed. That sucks big time.

I think it will be ok I'm gonna try it. Maybe a bad move but I don't think it's gonna hurt anything. Plus I tried to get a new one at the dealer get kept trying to sell me the release bearing.
