My 97 Tj build

So I have gone back and forth on the upgrade or not. After consulting with the boss, aka girlfriend, I decided to go for it. Im sure there are many post out there on the 5.7L swap, and Im sure Ill need advice but wanted to show off mine and get input here and there.

Ive already done some slight mods to jeep in the year Ive had it, 4" lift, new exterior paint and small stuff.

Here's a few images of the work in progress. Now since these pics I've pulled the drive shafts and the rest of the wiring harness and all the exhaust. All that's left is to pull the motor, trans and transfer case.

So are you gonna upgrade your axles? What trans/Tcase are you gonna run? Is it a chevy 5.7 or a hemi 5.7? Good luck man.

Thanks. Been debating this for awhile. I'm gonna go with a hemi 5.7. That seems to be alittle more expensive than the chevy but I like the hemi better. Probably switch from a manual trans to auto. Gonna keep the same transfer case for now just rebuild it and put a slip yoke on it.

As far as axles, I do want to upgrade them and put on a 4 link suspension while I'm doing all this. Thinking hard about pull the tub completely. Just debating that still. Keep you guys posted. Thank again.

Anyone running coil overs? I'm trying to make some decisions on things, like 4 link and coil overs. Found FOA coil overs, they seem fairly decent and the price is awesome. Anyone dealt with them. Any feed back would be welcome.

So I've gotten several things done lately. Power plant pulled, drive shafts and all that mess pulled. Bay cleaned and started painting. Motor mounts cut off. No going back now for sure. Run into a few issues, looks as tho the frame may be bent in the front and the driver side rubber part of the motor mount was no existent. Ill have to post pics of it. Anyway thanks for looking.

Sorry I haven't responded. I did all the paint myself. I sprayed rust oleum bed liner on the bottom half, I'll have to post the pictures, flat black on top. The fire wall is a high temp red. Doing the whole engine bay that color.

As far as rear ends I'm not really sure what kind of axles I'm putting on yet. I know I'm upgrading just not sure yet

So you did pull the tub off. I need to do that at some point just to tidy up my build and address some minor rust issues in hard to get to spots...how hard was it? Im pretty mechanically inclined and had the rears, trans, t case, stuff like that out.

Good luck with the rest of it man, Im sub'ed.

It was actually really easy. Undo gas filler and brake and fuel lines. The hardest part I found was the E brake cable. Just bc from the handle to the Y is only bout 3-4" long and the cable is very stiff. Then it's 10 body bolts and its off. Now I stripped all the seats and interior out to reduce the weight and do some work on the interior. I mainly did that so I could get all my suspension done right and easily. I still have to cut all the brackets off. Right now it's only coil springs, shocks and lower control arm on the frame. I pulled everything else this AM. So if you have pulled the motor and all that this is really a breeze. Best of luck. Let me know if you run into any issues. Maybe I can help.

Thanks. I'd like to think I have it. It's slowly coming together with a lot of trial and error.

Well it's been a while since I posted anything. Got the frame stripped and primed. Ended up going with a 5.9l dodge 360. Was alittle cheaper and easier to come by than the 5.7l hemi motors. Ordered front and rear shock towers from Rusty's offroad, and let me tell you they were fast shipping!!! And the parts look awesome. Got my motor mounts from advanced adaptors and got the frame all mocked up. Time for a little welding.

Thanks. Been busy in it the past 2 weeks. Bought a 14 bolt rear end and a dana 60, with a ton of up grades. Also got some 37" hummer H1 military tires and a set of custom rims. The rims are inner and outer bead locks. Having to send the hubs to Nashville to get drilled down to 6 lug tho. So it'll be a couple weeks before I can finish up my mock up. Also my wonderful new iPhone 5's camera stopped working so I can't post any pics of this stuff. So ill get them up as soon as I get this all fixed up. Thanks again.
