Hey everyone, I finally got a jeep. I've wanted one for so long!
It's a 4.0 L sport with a 5 speed. It's riding on some worn 31" BF Goodrich tires. It was a repo and we got it for 2500 dollars. Runs great, the engine seems to be in good condition (with the exception of no water in the cooling system, we haven't seen any sign of engine overheat but we will look into it once we get it clean) but the PO had a lot of junk laying around in it. Never cleaned it, and probably lived on a dirt road. I've got a few plans for this thing. But first things first, we gotta get it clean and fix any issues we find with the engine.
This is after we washed it up. Amazing what soap and water can do to a car! There doesn't appear to be much rust if any on the frame or anywhere on the jeep for that matter. The top is in poor condition with a rip down the back window (duct taped by PO). I plan to replace it with a hard top and find some full doors. I'm also considering the dual tube front bumper and a smittybilt SRC classic tire carrier. We took the seats out to wash them and are looking for some new seat covers. I'm thinking something to match the paint. The muffler has got a hole in it and while I do kinda like the sound, it needs a new muffler. Thinking about a flowmaster 50 series.. I'm thinking about a Rough Country 3.25" lift with 33x12.50 15 Goodyear wrangler duratrac tires, I may even keep the wheels that are on the jeep as they seem to be after market. Btw can anyone identify the rims on the jeep? It doesn't seem to have any markings on them, and I'm sure they're aftermarket. I need a 5th tire and I'd like the rim to match.
One of the things I found under the back seat was a jeep hubcap! I think it looks sick on my wall! It might be a suvonyier that I'll keep with me for the rest of my life to remember my first jeep! Lol
If you guys have any tips for me I'd appreciate it! My dad is a experienced mechanic and any issues that pop up we can resolve ourselves. We're fixing a bunch of interior things such as the ripped drivers seat and the bedlined floors. Need a new shifter knob and the shifter boot won't stay down. Until we fix it up though it'll be sitting in the drive!
Got my headlights btw. They are definitely brighter than stock and have a wider beam pattern. I haven't been able to test them both at the same time but I will tonight
Depends on what you want. I've seen people plasti dip/bed line or rattle can their hard tops. If you do decide to go the rattle can route make sure to find one that binds well to fiberglass. And remember prep is key!
The projectors shine a lot brighter and wider than the stock bulbs did. We have to wire in the led ring. And I'm gunna put xenons in it soon.
However the starter went out now so we gotta replace that.
Congratulations on your first Jeep. Looking really good! The matching interior paint on the dash and what-not really stands out. Quality work.
I have the same color on my '02 Sport, which I purchased used back in 2010. Also installed the RC 3.25" lift. Added the steering stabilizer, front and rear adjustable track bar and the quick disconnects. Very happy with the ride quality compared to the stock ride.
I painted the front half of the hardtop. I need to get more cans of this stuff. It's just some standard trim and bumper paint It works good! I just ran out so I guess I'll get more later.
Well I've started driving the jeep yesterday. It's kinda obvious when I mess up shifting. Lol we're taking it to a shop today and will have an alignment done for the front end. Maybe we'll get a muffler system installed too, who knows haha. We'd probably need to replace the entire exhaust system because we don't know how long there's been a hole in the muffler.
The transmission needs work done. It might have a bad synchronizer or something. It pops out of gear occasionally and is difficult to put in 1st.
Meguiars has a product called ultimate black. I have had some good luck. Works well on fenders and hard tops. Just need a small sponge to apply it. Might be an option instead of paint.
We're definitely rebuilding the transmission we have. A little late on the paint recommendation haha I finished it and it looks great. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it.
Had a little bit off a scare when I got off work tonight. I went to crank up the jeep and this happened:
I cranked it up and it started to stall like it sometimes does, so I gave it some gas and all of a sudden it went full throttle. Kinda like a runaway diesel. Scary in person lol. I pulled it out of gear real quick and shut it off. I tried it again and it did the same thing. So, I turned it off after scaring mrs sandy lol. Then opened the hood and pulled off the shit ass cold air intake that was on and what do you know, a gasket from the cold air intake had come loose and (luckily) got caught around the throttle blade. I pulled it out and the problem was fixed. My dad was on the way so I wanted to wait till he got there to crank it up again. When he got there I cranked it and it was fine. It did it's damage though. The tachometer had spun all the way around and broke itself. LUCKILY.. That was the only damage that was done. Looking for a factory air box as I never believed in "cold air" intakes. I was flipping shit in my head as we had already sold my old ford explorer (most call them exploders because that's all they ever do right) and if the jeep was messed up I would have nothing to drive to school or work. I guess we would have had to share cars. But that's thankfully not the case. I'm just happy my jeep is alright
Yeah I know it can be fixed but i don't know how haha. Care to share?
It's not necessarily broken. It just spun a complete 360 degrees and got stuck under the needle that stops it
I've never messed with a tach before man haha. Wish I could help... Maybe take the cover off and just see if there is anything visible causing the problem like maybe you can just move the needle. That's where I'd start.
Yeah that's basically how you fix it. You turn the needle all the way back. I guess "broken" is a bad term. It's just spun too far and reached the point of no return haha. Fixing it shouldn't be too bad. Just gotta find time.
It's been a couple weeks since I updated this but the Cold air intake has been replaced! The jeep is definitely funner to drive with out having to worry about a malfunction due to a cold air intake. Check engine light went out after we replaced the intake as well, so I'd say, two birds one stone. Drove the jeep a few times without the doors and half top and it is relaxing during those cool nights here in SC. Still haven't fixed the tachometer haha.
Btw why do I have a "quota" for how many pictures I can post? I have the app for my iPhone and it won't let me post pictures anywhere due to exceeding a certain amount of KB? Doesn't make since to me..
sweet build ! i love my RC 3.25 inch lift. also im a sucker for a chili pepper red jeep. but i do wanna say that i think you should re think the dick cepek rims :hide:
Just purchased the rugged ridge black front bumper light bar kit from Amazon. Comes with a light bar that mounts to the stock bumper and comes with 3, 100 watt slim off road lights. Also includes wiring and a switch. The best part? It was 97$ shipped
Also purchased a rocker switch for 20 dollars. I spent a lot of money today.. 98$ to replace my iPhone battery and another 120 for my jeep.. That's the most money I've ever spent in one day!
Well.. Bumper kit came today.. I also received a roof light rack that I never ordered, but ok.. Haha The lights look awesome on the jeep. I haven't finished wiring them as I'm still waiting for the rocker switch. The roof light bar mount that I got for free is glossy black and seems to be cheap. I looked it up on Amazon and saw it was about 120 dollars. I'll keep it and instal it someday, but i didn't get any mounting hardware besides the three pieces of pipe that came with it. The package had my name on it but was beat all to hell. But hey, free stuff! Haha
This app is about to piss me off. I can't add pictures and when It lets me I can't post it. This might be the last update as I can't add any pictures but I've wired the spot lights and they're great. It's a shame y'all can't see em
