do i need to regear my 1999 sport 4.0L manual with a 3in lift and 33s? if i do, do i have to do it right away or can it wait also need advice on the speedo gear also
Well it depends on what you do with it. I'm gonna go with the assumption than you have 3.73s in the jeep.
My wrangler gets something like 12 mpg with 33 MTRs and the stock gears. 5th gear is useless unless you're going down a hill or down a flat straightaway. Top speed is around 65mph. Speedo is off by 5mph, maybe a little more.
I live in Pennsylvania with lots of hills and such, so a vehicle with shorter gears is better.
And that's just the road. If you're gonna do any kind of rock crawling, then you will need new gears. 1st gear in 4 low is too tall for me to creep over stuff at a slow speed, so I find myself slipping the clutch and hitting obstacles faster than I should be.
In all honesty I would say go for the re-gear.
