I've had my jeep since July 2015, and after seeing everyone else's build thread, I decided that I would start my own; partially to keep progress of what I've done/plan to do and to help anyone out and maybe get some insight from the rest of you folks.
My wife found this jeep on craigslist for $6000 and we went to look at it. It had a salvage title due to being side-swiped by an 18 wheeler. The owner replaced the fenders and did some more work to it to make it drivable. After looking at it, we were able to get it for $4000 and I drove it home.
When I started driving it, it would have this "fish tail" feeling that I couldn't exactly pin point. After driving it a few months, the "fish tailing" got worse, and I had my buddy come check it out with me. The rear upper control arm mount on the axle was snapped off. We tried welding it back on, but the weld broke as soon as I drove it. I scoured the local junkyards and craigslist looking to find a Dana35 w/ 4.11 gears, and there were none to be found. I really didn't want to spend $1000 for an aftermarket diff, so I was heartbroken and the jeep sat unused for about 8 months.
Pics to follow soon.
