Speed's Build (Slow build, Paint drying slow)

So i bought this jeep not to long ago maybe a month or 2 i was on jeep forum a lot but i find i don't post much anymore there, so i will transfer my build thread here. so a lot for the beginning will be copy and paste.

So aside from my other 2 build thread duds i usually run out of money and interest relatively quickly. So i figure 3rd time is a charm.

i have owned a few Cherokee and put on some mild-ish builds, this will stay roughly the same but i feel there is a lot more i need to do, to get this where i would like it.

Previous Vehicles-

98 Xj

94 XJ

95xj

Which i totaled :/

so i sold my 98 Cherokee a couple weeks ago made a nice penny, but not enough that i needed so saved a bit and bought a decent 2002 Wrangler X 132,000 miles 5spd a couple nights ago. pretty amped as it is very clean but still needs some help in some areas. so with out further adieu.....

A couple pictures i received from PO:

So after talking Via email about a jeep i couldn't afford, we finally set a date we both drove about 2 hours met and drove the sucker home.

So i get home after driving 2 hours down the turnpike, not the most fun i have ever had and find some things out that need to be taken care of.

So i paw over when i get home and create a little list of whats already done to it.
HAS
-6" lift appears to be skyjacker 4" front coil with spacer and rear 6" coil.
-SYE and CV shaft
-Rear 8.8 from ECGS with disc brakes
-35x12.5 General AT2
-Front and Rear bumpers
-winch
-Non working lights
-Sound bar
-RC full control arm set Adj
-Dual steering Stabilizer
-New Ball Joints

After Driving it a day or so, so i found quite i few things it needs (or maybe Want)

Needs

-Steering (stock w/ 35s not greatest idea ever)
-adjust linkage for Tcase
-New speedo gear ( at 70im actually doing 63 hah)
-Lose the drop pit-man arm
-Tie rod ends
-Adjust Ebrake cable
-New Soft Top
-Ditch the Dual Stabilizer
-full doors and a hardtop (sometime before winter)
-Jeepair (sometime before next summer)
-New stereo head unit

Some Pics from when i got her home

My scary steering:

Onto to replacing something's

Got a barricade soft top replacement for that worn out skin that was on there, cheap but went easy and fit like a glove.( also the PO had painted the spice Factory top that was on there while on the jeep so there is spray paint in some spots of my paint cool!)
[/URL]
Sounds good on the highway at 60 and now I have rear tinted windows

Also random
Bought some continental DWs for my car in march and they had a 70 rebate or an ion air (Go pro sorta) finally came in the mail 4 months later! Amped! now i just need to go wheeling!

Took off those harbor freight lights wrapped in a KC cover, looks much cleaner

sorted out some issues
I was having some clunking issues in 1st 2nd and 3rd .. tightened up all my control arms and so far seems to be gone. Also loosened my e brake so now I can pull it up and it works haha.

More issues
I'm having issues engaging 4wd? Like when I goto put in 4h feels like it pulls right past? What should I look for the linkage?

Also I found and have cut and splice my old IPFs. .

Pic with my uncles 05 X

mild update

bought some things

-new sway bar links rear just going to throw them up front lol they were cheaper
-serpentine belt
-hopefully the right size hitch pin

hopefully they are all in stock hope to have them on Tuesday so i can sort out some body sway and get that belt changed for inspection. the pin so i can mount my rear smitty hitch step!

**Side note anyone want to trade Rubi flares or sienna pearl Sahara flares for my 7" flares?**

Monthly Update

-Got Those side steps off the passenger side fought me as PO broke the rear body mount bold and welded another one to it so all it did was spin. heated up cut out and new bolt and now i am Step-less until i get some funds for some sliders.
-tightened up steering looks like track bar bolt is wallowing it self out so now that's tightened as best as it can till i can afford a replacement. helped with a lot of the wobble. also had the steering box tightened a bit took out some play in the wheel.
-Ditched one of those stabilizers
-Picked up a new roller fair lead for the front now its all shiny
-also picked up a used insta trunk for free (SCORE!)
-Changed Tranny fluid with some synchromesh seems to cure a little grind issue i was having.
-pressed out those ****ty JKS links bushings and replaced the sleeves, no grease on this new set and they are working fantastically, especially compared to the over greased bushing that were in there old and garbage!

Good news fixing that little list no new problems really emerged! So on to current projects (money permitting)

-Track bar seeing as that bolt is wallowing out. I'm thinking if i replace that i should probably pick up a bracket for the rear thoughts?
-Steering seems to be sufficient for now, but is still high on my list.
-install that instatrunk - need to pick up hardware for that
-Change oil waiting on my coupon from Advanced Auto lol

Future Thoughts

-Thinking of Doing internal sleeves on the D30, since its mostly street light trails i don't want to dump loads of cash into it
-Thinking Durango box upgrade?
-May be picking up some stock TJ flares (pretty excited for that)

Aside from all that was able to do a little cruising and take some pics as i always love looking at my jeep:2thumbsup:

Little Flex with links still attached

^^mind you my 2 year old in the back having a blast!

After some fresh fluids - complete night and day difference.
read every where be careful as the fluid comes rushing out of the trans im like blah blah blah.. thinking it cant be worse than changing oil ad ladde dah i undo the bolt and instantly im covered in trans fluid and missed the ****ing bucket:brickwall deerr oh and filling it with a little bottle pump was just as much fun

Back out looking for dirt roads

Questions, comments, concerns? leave em below!

Side note

what are you guys in your TJ 5spds getting mpg wise?

35s nv3550 (need to check what gears specifically i have i believe 4.10s) I'm getting avg 18-20?? i know my speed gear is off roughly 5-7mph at 50 but that would equate to maybe 1-2mpg difference, as most of my driving is mostly in town sub 45mph back roads not to much stop and go but definitely hills. thoughts?

Something isn't right with my TJ then. I'm getting MAYBE 13-15 2WD with 33's and 3.73 gears.

Must be because i drive like an old lady.. hahah

relatively new goodies:

Bought my uncle new black Flares so i got his old khaki, well ordered from Rugged Ridge so they sent me 2 right rear soo still waiting on a left flare before i can get his rear flares.. but here are his khaki stock flares to replace my 7 inchers... getting prepped for paint. painted the little extension pieces seemed to turn out all right

Also my New insta trunk however i have to go get some hardware for it shouldnt be to hard to find... also planning on removing the carpet as its getting flaky rusty under the carpet so i want to refinish it.
I go to Rip the carpet off last night and it is like glued down broke 2 razor blades and the pliers i used just kept tearing the carpet apart.. anyone every do this have any ideas?

Once I get my D60's finished I'm going to run (when I get them purchased) some Maxxis 37's on my D35 and see how long it takes for them to go BOOM.

Fun little test.

I always use Lucas additive in with my oil. I always stick with the same weight/brand throughout a vehicles life if I can. Last truck I had finally let it go (4.8L V-8) with 285K no knocks or nothing! It's still running around today with 350K+

Let me know if you notice any difference with the fuel additive. I've used that a couple times and most of what I noticed is that the fuel just burns hotter (raised octane) but I will say if it's been a long time cleaning your throttle body does wonders.

yea i usually go with Lucas as well with all my vehicles, they have great quality stuff.

the Rislone .. didnt break anything not sure it did anything either, but ill chalk it up as a win for now

The Jeep is gonna be down for a week or so coming up, barring my shit comes in on time from amazon lol so ill have to pull the air intake apart and clean that throttle body for sure.

Bought a bunch of rust stuff from eastwood off of amazon
-QT encapsulater
-2 cans internal frame sealer
-paint brush and wire brush.

main goal get the frame coated - debating on dropping the trans skid
then have to sand the fender rust down and paint.
some other little odd and ends

Little update started this weekend and week ... started sanding my fender got a little deeper than I thought it would.
Than I got the jeep propped up so I could run water through it all got a-lot of mud out which freaking ruled. Also found a bottle cap and 2 drain plugs under the floor pan it self and then drilled holes in frame to help drain some water.

Than I took the time to get the skid off so I could get the whole frame pretty amped all down no broken bolts.. dam that pan was nasty
