Starting my LJ build

I am going to do a full metalcloak build on my LJ. I just ordered my Arched fenders with 6" flares. I can't wait for them to get in.

They called me to thank me for the order. About 5 weeks out. I think that I am going to paint the fenders and powdercoat the flares.

I am going to keep the same tires for a while. After the full metalcloak I need to upgrade my front axle. Then I am going with 37" or 38"

I received my fenders a day early. I am excited. Here are some pics of the unboxing.

Well Packed

Driver's fender with flare

Passenger fender

Back side

Inner Fender

I was impressed with the packaging. The fender and flare is mounted together. It was well wrapped with bubble wrap. Each box had 1 fender with flare, one inner fender, and a bracket that I am sure is used for mounting. The mounting hardware is in it's own sealed envelope. The triangle pieces for the holes are in an envelope. And I got 2 MetalCloak stickers.

After unboxing and looking at them I don't know if my original plan of painting the fenders and powder coating the flares is what I want to go with.

I just talked to a Powder Coating company in West Monroe Louisiana. The lady that I talked to said that she wants to powder coat a whole jeep. I am going to go talk to them tomorrow. It won't be a whole jeep but with all of the corner guards and rock rails it will be close. I am going with the full corners. I also wouldn't mind having my warn bumpers coated.

Maybe they will cut me a deal if I let them use my Jeep for advertising.

Just dropped them off at the powder coater. We matched the color on my jeep almost perfect. $250 for fenders and flares.

I am going to order the metalcloak full corners with 6" flares and rocker guards today.

After that I will have my bumpers coated. I am also looking fo someone to build me a full cage.

I plan on running 37" tires after I finish some upgrades. I am looking for axles now. I want 60's but dang they are high.

FOr axles look at Dynatrac's front D44HP/D44 rear combo. Awesome axles, but not sure of your budget or if your just looking for junkyard D60's.

As for cages check out Genright's kit: LJ Sport Cage Kit I just picked it up and will be in the process of retrofitting it to the stock cage over the wintertime. Allows for nice factory integration keeps full functionality of stock components.

I have rear 44 with 488 gears and limited slip. I have looke at alot of axles. My only concern with the tj 44 is that it uses 30 outers. If I can find a used 44 I will install better axles.

I dont really have a budget. I figure ill put about 10k in it within the next year. Jeep is paid for and I have been saving fo another project for a while. I decided not to build my Bronco right now.

I also want a complete tube cage thru the dash. Mainly because my family is usually with me when I wheel.

You can also look at doing an HP D30 in the front. 37's I feel is definitely the limit to it, but you can wheel reliably on it. Imped here runs an HP D30 on his 37's, a few people in my club also run an HP D30 on 37's. I mention this due to the fact you state running 4.88's. You can pick up a new HP D30 pretty cheap, get an inner sleeve and C gusset kit for an extra 150 bucks and be pretty stout. I run 35's on my HP D30(sleeve and gusset kit with RCV's)and hammer on it pretty good at times. Its been fantastic to date so far.

As for the Genright kit the one I showed is the "sport" LJ kit. But they also have a lot of upgrades and accessories for it(like full frame tie ins, also make a couple of full kits too). I also ride with my kids a lot(but honestly on situations where I'm in position to potentially NEED the roll cage, I have them get out of the vehicle regardless)as well, so like you safety is a big concern for me.

Their cage options are great and are not one and done solutions at all. Not sure what you mean by through the dash, but all the Genright cage kits are fully braced through the dash. I picked my kit up after seeing a TJ slow roll twice over with a sport cage down a small creek embankment due to major driver incompetence. After winching it out, it only suffered paint scratching and marring, was still perfectly square. Definitely a huge upgrade over the stock on and done factory roll bar. I think at the very least their products are good for consideration or comparison.

If you've already got 44's why not upgrade the shafts to chromoly shafts, upgrade the knuckles and ball joints with spicer products, and have a fairly strong axle.

Well I just spent some more money with Metalcloak. $1543.68

I ordered full corner guards, 6" flare, rock rails. Now I can't wait for them to come in. I now wish that I would have ordered it all at once.

Lots if stuff happening. Got my fenders and flares back from the powder coater. I'm not pleased with the color. The one I picked out was metalic silver. The color I received is gray.

I am installing them anyway. Pics to follow.

I also received my extended corners and rock sliders today. I did have to call metalcloak and request more mounting hardware. Mine was open and scattered throughout the pallet. I have already received my tracking info.
