Should have updated this a while back..... finished my swing-away tire carrier at the end of April....

For the pivot, I started with 3" solid stock stainless , bored and milled it to accept the races for my Timken Bearings. The shaft is 1.25".

I decided to go with 1/8" wall 2x2 tubing for strength and weight... I knew it was going to be heavy. The locking pin is spring loaded and ramps up the SS tab with recess to accommodate the 1/2" lock pin.

The latch is surprising small for the amount of weight it holds. This is a De Sta Co 344 vertical hook latch clamp which will hold around 2000 lbs. I trust them since we use this style clamp at work on a lot of machinery guards. This DOES NOT have the built in safety latch... so if you look close, you will see a 5/16" hole just between the allen socket heads. This is for a looped safety pin that captures the handle.

Here is a clearance pic... I have ample room BEHIND the spare for ax, shovel and hi-lift. The tab on top of the receiver is for my CB antenna... once I get a longer cable... it will be there on a spring mount.

I may look like overkill to some, but I wanted it strong. I also have a receiver up top for future fabs, but for now... I got a HF hitch light for a 3rd eye....

I also decided to make it big enough for 35's... IF I ever decide to go that route.... gotta plan ahead!!!

In April, I landed a FREE set of Rubicon Flares after a friend of mine from Reno4x4 decided to upgrade to 7" Flares.... the install was pretty straight forward and I did refinish them with Rustoleum Bedliner... like every other black part on my Jeep.

After that....I decided to turn my Rubi Rockers into sliders....

I already acquired Rubicon Rockers last yeas and I'm starting to do a little more hardcore trails and decided to beef them up a bit.

I started with 1.75" DOM tubing, cut it in half and wrapped the edge and tacked in place...

I wanted a slight 45* angle up and out with a few supports and this is what I ended up fabricating...

I pulled the Rockers and tacked up the tubes at the desired angle.... This much welding would destroy the rubber backing and the paint on the body.

Here you can see just how I wrapped the edge of the rocker and how the tubes come together...

I finished the welding.... and used my BEST friend... Rustoleum Bedliner ( like my rims, flares, bumpers and swing-away ) and gave them two good coats.... let them dry overnight and just installed them....

In June... I added a RC 1.25" BL to my money pit to help stop destroying my fenders on full flex... 2.75" of bump stop was NOT enough...

The very same day... I SCORED BIGTIME!!!

I was searching Craigslist for Jeep related junk ( I do it daily, several times a day as you never know what will pop up and be gone...case in point ) and came across this...

54"x72" Garvin Industries Wilderness Expedition Rack

FOR $300!!!! I couldn't pass it up!!! Q-Tec sells this very rack for $838.99!!!

I got all kinds of accessory brackets with it as well!!!! The only downside is I had to drill 6 holes in the rear of the tub.... oh well...

After the bodylift, I had to test out the flex with a little Urban terrain by my house to ensure I wasn't going to damage my fenders anymore...

I found this nice 36" retaining wall... I just had to.....

After I was happy with not damaging my fenders... I headed back to the Trenches in Cold Springs to test it out in the very spot I mangled them, just to be sure.... I wish I had my real camera instead of my iPhone...

Well... I finally got around to finishing the cargo rack for my swing-away....Harbor Freight Cargo Master I got on sale for $49 last year. Tested 250 lbs in it and swing-away only flexes about 1/4"

It mounts up top in a receiver that I welded in when I made my swing-away. I can adapt many things in the receiver and this is one I will utilize a lot when camping and off-roading.

Here we are in the first week of August... HOT HOT HOT!!!!

OK guys.... finished the TT.... here we go...

I did NOT go with a LoPro mount... used the factory mount

I started with a some measurements...

15" of ground clearance with the stock shovel.....

The angle of my rear driveline was sitting pretty at 16 degrees and 15 at the pinion.... just did this to show what the angle change is with THIS UCF extra clearance skid...

-I unbolted the 4 tranny mount bolts
-Took the 4 screws off the radiator shroud ( I knew I needed to relocate it )
-Jacked up the trans about 2.5" higher than the stock shovel and supported it with a jackstand.
-lowered shovel
-Installed UCF skid loosely
-Lowered tranny/t-case onto new skid aligning the trans mount... finished tightening the skid

Took some more measurements...

I gained a total of 2" of belly clearance... Just what I expected.

What I didn't expect was the LARGE increase in driveline angle... from 16 degrees to 28 degrees... WOW!!! The tape in the below pic shows where the splines were prior to the TT... 3.25" showing... now.... 4" showing.

I knew I needed to adjust my pinion angle from the start... so I hopped on that right away... about 45 minutes to an hour I had dialed my driveline and pinion back in with a couple of tries... no biggie there.... I have plenty of slip left in the driveline (3.75") and after adjustments, the total exposed slip is at 3.75" versed the 3.25" from before the TT...

I had to relocate the fan shroud DOWN about a 1/4" from stock... took like 10 minutes and a dremel tool.

I can definitely see why a lot of folks go with the Novak cable shifter... I am ok with the little tweeking I did on the rods and adjusting the linkage.... no binding at all and shifts smooth, though its not perfect by any means. Tomorrow will be the test run.

The front exhaust hanger is part of the trans mount, so the exhaust got pushed up a bit and I have contact at the upper control arm bolt with the muffler and the tailpipe now hits my rear shock. It's a solid contact at this point and no rattles, but needs some attention.

All in all... about 3.5 hours to get it done and back on the road with no vibes or rattles.

Now that I see why NEW BOLTS are needed, I will be replacing them, THANKS DOC!

***REMEMBER.... I had mostly everything I needed to get the TT done already... just needed the new skid.***

If you are starting from scratch.... you need DEEP pockets....

Here is the final outcome... I couldn't be happier.....
