| 2008 Sahara...deal or no deal?
Anyone have any good stories about recent deals they got or heard of? I'm looking at a 2008 Sahara Unlimited, pretty much loaded up except for the UConnect/Nav system. It's stickered at around $29k and they're offering it at $25k with rebates and "coupons"...-$4k doesn't seem like a truly great deal considering it's an '08 and the current state of Chrysler.

I'd offer $23K on that one. Point out the useless side steps and problematic 18" wheels.

What's problematic about the 18" wheels? I'm kind of a newb to the JK...last Wrangler I had was a '97 Sport.

tires will cost you more when you have to replace them on 18" wheels.

I am in Ca but I was looking at 2008 before I bought my 2009 and out the door 2008, again in Ca, was $27,000 was the best I could do here. so was $25k out the door or before T&L?

In Canada here I could have bought a 2008 for 27,000 with all in 30,000 on the road. That is Canada. I bought a Demo Limited for about the same price and they took control over my buyout and over mileage on my Sport Trac (extra 3k saving). I would go lower, as a 2009 shouldn't run you much more.

We didn't get into too many details, but I think the $25,000 was before T&L. I have a feeling I can get them down further...but the 18" tire thing is a bit worrisome...maybe I can get away with an X Unlimited rather than a Sahara....thanks for the input

keep in mind though that the Sahara may have other options you like that the X doesn't have. That was the case with me, and I will tackle the $$ replacement of the 18's on my Sahara come the time...Just a thought.

Think hard about the choice. I really like the extras on my Rubicon. My dealer had a free tires for the life of the vehicle offer going when I purchased it. Hopefully that lasts at least through two tire changes. It was included in the purchase. Even if they find a way to sleaze out of it, I'm not too worried about tire replacement.

Oh yah, I did some research on 18 inch wheels and couldn't find too much negative about them. Now the leaky roof, that is a different story.

When I wanted rubber there was almost nothing available that would fit without spacers.
I think my next set will be 275/70-18 --- that's about as much as will fit without other mods.

Initially, I didn't want to speak too distinctly about the tires on my own vehicle because I wasn't too sure what size they were. I went on the web last night and looked around at specifications of rim size and could only find 17" stock rims on the sahara unlimited. I just came in from outside and I had a look at what is on my vehicle. They are 17s. I've yet to find a sahara unlimited with 18" rims stock. Are 17" rims as hard to find tires for as 18s? Are the folks talking about 18s mistaken about the rim size? or ar the 18s ordered by some dealers as preference over 17s?

Ive got 18's on my Jeep the 285/60/18 Nitto Tera Grappler was $165 a tire which is just $30 higher than 285/75/16 (what was on my Chevy shortbed) so not realy that much difference

I was impressed! I didn't even talk about buying yet... I just wanted a "look see"! After a 3 day hiatus of thinking about it etc., and after at least 15 phone calls from the dealership asking why we were hesitating.... the GM lowered the price another $1,000.00.
Amazing!
Total discount of $8,000.00!
We don't buy fast.... so we had to think and figure out if the wrangler was "the" vehicle for us.
I also heard on a forum somewhere... that someone was given a discount of $10,000.00 somewhere!
I think next month will see a new sahara in the driveway! Now I can bargain with them since they already gave me such a low price! |

As someone who has sold cars at a dealership I would say try to buy at the end of the month. They always want to get at least one more out before the month ends. You will probably get the best deal then.

I think that it might be a matter of economics right now and Jeep will use the Rubi wheels.
Without a doubt, I have 18's and the rubber is harder to find than for a 17. Quality Jeep-oriented rubber, that is. Quote:

I'd rather go tall than wide. Did you ever measure the true diameter of that Nitto?

The diameter of the Terra's 285/60/18 are 31 1/2 ". But its what was on it when I got it . The sidewalls are low for off road ,when I replace them I plan to go with the 315/70 or 75 which is 35" and a little over .They are @$280.00 each . Which isnt to far off other 35"s of comperable quality . I had just purchased the spare for mine so the price is what I was talking about.

I just got my 08 JK Unl. Rubi with all of the goodies for 23. I had to jerk the dudes chain for about 2 weeks alone with three other stealerships, but it worked out in the end.
My Jeep is supposed to be worth 27K right now.
