Hey, im looking for alittle direction on my '09 sahara soft top. do i have to take the side and rear windowns out befor i roll the top down. is it always as hard as the frst time was? i wasnt given any specific directions about how to operate and this is my first wrangler. Can anyone help??

The soft tops can be a bit of a nailbiter to operate, but when it is down it is well worth the effort. You are best to unzip all the windows and take them out and than roll the top down. I would also invest in a storage bag for the windows to avoid scratching them.

Ok. Let's start at the top. Take the top down following the card that SHOULD have been on the passenger side sun visor of your JK when you bought it.
Next up- Jeep/Mopar has softtop window storage bags available at your dealership.
It'll get easier- everything will break in. Keep the zippers clean and lubed and it gets a lot easier- Mark W.

Sorry my mistake, I forgot the OP has a JK not a TJ. So that storage bag may not work.

I was gonna pay $100 for the Mopar one on special order and the guy up here told me not to waste my cash. What I will do is buy 3 microfibre fleece blankets and lay each one out on the ground as the windows come out. I will then roll each one up in the blanket, and secure the two ends and middle with a piece of velcro. I can either lay them in the trunk, on the floor in the back seat or find a bag to place them in. Seems like a cheaper solution for me...

I asked a questionin a similar topic- do you absolutely have to remove the rear window? My 2001 and my 1997 Wranglers both had straps to roll the rear window up; they're missing on my 2009. It's a real pain to have to take that rear window in & out every time...

Taking the rear window out shouldn't take more than MAYBE 30-45 seconds- NOT what I'd call a pain! If not, see above post about zipper lube! Mark W.

Your 09 should have came with straps to hold the rear window rolled up.

you dont need to take the rear window out. i dont just make sure it is going into the trunk evenly so you dont crease the window its a pain to take out evey time so i dont. you do have to take off the side windows. this is on my 2 door i dont know if the 4 door is much different.

I purchased the Mopar window storage bag from the dealer. Around $80.00. I've been happy with it.

For zipper lube, why pay for it. I use dinner candles that have been half burned and not going to be used any more at the dinner table. Lubing zippers is a great use for old candles.

so how exactly do you do the candle wax method ive heard about it alot and need some kind of lube for my zippers but have no idea where to put the candle wax

Just run the candle up and down the zipper. Some of it will flake off and some will stay. Once you operate the zipper a few times, you will notice that it works very easily. Works better on a warm day or pre-heat the candle with a lighter. Give it a try, it works on zippers of all types and all places. Jackets for instance.

Badfish: Aren't you one of the folks on the board that likes simple and inexpensive solutions? This is a good one. I likewise enjoy trying them out.
