2010 Unlimited Wrangler- Water leak

I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I purchased in new last April. To date, I have had my jeep serviced three times for a perpetual water leak. The dealership contacted the engineers who deemed it "a design defect". I didn't notice the problem until January of 2011, and I was over 12,000 miles. I have contacted a Lemon Law attorney and my vehicle does not qualify under the Lemon Law. It does, however, classify under a Breach of Warranty. I'm not sure what to do now. I love my jeep, but the unfixable water leak is decreasing it's value and causing my floor mats and seats to mold. The dealership insists on trying to reseal the entire vehicle, but it just doesn't seem to work. I'm paying for a car that has spent more time in the shop than on the road. Please help!

When I purchased mine, it was a soft top only. The dealer told me that Wranglers that are manufactured with soft tops have different seals, which I don't completely understand. If the top is interchangeable, than the seals should be universal. The dealer metioned the mucket seals being installed incorrectly, but they have been replaced three times so far. I first noticed the water coming in the passenger side front door near the roof. When I would come to a stop, water would run in (looked like a bucket was being dumped in the window). This caused my floor mats to become saturated and also drenched the seat and the passenger. After a really heavy rain, I noticed that the drivers side front seat belt was wet and there was a pool of water in the B post. The rollbar material was also wet. I was never able to pinpoint exactly where water was coming in on the drivers side. When I took it back last week (it's still there), they told me that it was leaking, bad. They called an engineer and decided to order a seal package. I am expecting to go pick it up today or tomorrow, but who knows if it's actually fixed. We are expecting heavy rains later this week, so I guess I'll find out. I'm just so disappointed. I've wanted a wrangler since I was a little kid and now I'm having all these problems with it! It's so frustrating!

First thing you should do is pull the carpets and leave them out. I get a leak almost every time it rains because the freedom tops seal like crap. Sometimes I can adjust them and get ti right but most of the time I dont. Hopefully you can din this leak. The seals are different between hard and soft top. There are door surrounds the soft top sues that the hard top does not.

Just picked my jeep up from it's third attempt to fix the issue. The service rep was pissy with me today stating that he does't know how it still could be leaking . I shot back it's because you still haven't fixed it. Well let's see if it leaks the next time it rains.

i dont know which part I persoanlly enjoy the most:

1) Ripping the carpet out and drying it after it rains...
2) Leaving the carpet in, hoping the pleasant scent of mildew works its way into my seats and HVAC system...
3) Getting to visit the freindly folks at my local dealership again and playing a verbal "cat and mouse" games...
4) Writing a nice check every month and hitching a ride to the post office to mail it because my Jeep is at the service center...

If it's raining super heavy I might get a small drip from the middle of the freedom top, otherwise no leaking any where else even with soft top on. My friends jeep would pour in from the sides of the doors and they never were able to fix it, and never had an answer after many attempts trying. Her husband made her sell it. I really think the answer is, some leak (some lemons) and some aren't (sorry). I would sell it and get another. Test drive it on a rainy day though. Good luck.

Keep taking it back and forcing them to write it up....and at some point decide you've had enough and file a claim. Or, as others have suggested, avoid further frustration and sell it. Trade it in on a new one at a different dealer....then it's their problem, not yours.

On another Jeep forum a guy noted that after 11 (yes, you are reading that correctly) he sent everything to Chrysler and they eventually agreed to buy it back for a FULL REFUND.

OR you could do what the guy in China did when he couldn't get his Lamborghini Gallardo fixed at the local dealer.....he torched it in a public square as a sign of protest. Yep, now THAT is a way to clear your head of further frustrations. Kind of like lighting a match to a wad of 200 $1000 bills (at least)...but at least he doesn't have to deal with that car dealer anymore.

Mine leaks too. 2011 JK 2dr with hard top. They've fixed it once (three days into ownership) and it's sitting in the rain right now, so we'll see what happens. It hasn't leaked in the last couple of storms, but who knows how long the fix will last. I am trying to just deal with it, and accept that it's just not worth the hassle. Each of us has our own limits of what we will tolerate. Mine is usually pretty low, but I'm trying to just let this one roll off my back. We shall see...

Best of luck!

Man that sucks. I would try to get them to make the fixes and agree to replace the seats and the carpet. I would remove the existing carpet, get them to fix the seal, and once you have verified the fix is good...take it back in for new seats and carpet. If they won't agree to that I would get a lawyer.

I picked the Jeep up yesterday afternoon. At 7am this morning, I got in to find the seatbelt soaked, the carpets wet, and a trickle of water coming down the B post. Apparently the third time wasn't the charm. It goes back to the dealer tomorrow. It was in the shop for over a week and the service tech admitted that it was the worst that he has seen. They just aren't able to fix it. I think at this point, I'm just going to get rid of it and get a new one. Even though I've had these problems, I still love Jeep and I would buy another wrangler. Thank you all for the suggestions and help. It's nice to know I'm not the only person experiencing problems. I just wish Chrysler would own up to it.

I can't believe what I'm reading. The exact same thing is happening with my Jeep that I just got last month. I'm taking it in on Saturday for my first attempt at fixing it. It was fine during the hurricane and so that definitely means that the top was put back on properly. Now this week it's raining and it's pouring in the passenger side front door near roof just like yours was. Floor mats and seat are soaking wet. SUCKS...... I'm so sad. I think I can qualify for lemon law because there are only 1,000 miles on it. But it has to rain 4 times I guess and be at the shop 4 more times before I can do anything -- if they can't fix it Sat. :-(

Wow, with all of these posts and threads about leaks, it is beginning to sound like an epidemic. Sounds like the new owner of the Jeep line has got their work cut out for them if they want sales to continue to rise.

I guess I'm one of the lucky one's. I've had my JK with a hard top for almost a year now. Had it off and on several times still no leaks (knock on wood)
