Ok many of us take our dog with us in our jeep right? Put down the seat - come on boy get in! Well the back seat folds down the hinges are exposed and it hurts to lay on it and it is dangerous for dogs to step in. I have a Great Dane that doesn't need any twisted ankles or a broken foot from him riding in the back with me to the store. Help! I have tried stuffing a body pillow, add sleeping bags on top and then they can fly out. I know someone has resolved this issue somewhere? I have looked for thick mats to lay on top of the hinges and can't find anything that doesnt buckle when stepped on. I am dissappointed in Jeep not thinking of the owners with dogs or that we sleep or "lounge" back there at times. So what can I put back there? My great dane is tapping his foot for an answer from all the smart jeep people. : )
My Explorer has an extra piece that flaps over the hinges when you put the back seat down. Why didn't they do that?

You can buy furniture moving pads at u-haul.
I use them all the time and the can be washed if muddy.
Washing makes them softer too. They work with my 2
komondor and like you want to keep them safe.
The only draw back a puppy may enjoy removing the stuffuin from the pads and that gets very messy

If you don't ever have people sitting in the back, you could just remove the whole seat. It'd give your pup more room to stretch out and get the hinges out of the way, as well as giving you more room for gear.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see that this was a JK. I have a TJ so I don't know if the JK seat comes out.

My wife and I never leave home without our Lab, hence my call sign, "labwagn" (also our vanity plate).

I solved the problem by purchasing rigid, closed cell foam padding and cutting it to fill in the depressions. It had a stiffness similar to what you would find in a "posturpedic" bedding material.

After measuring the three depressions adjacent to the hinges, I cut the foam padding slightly larger the the depressions to allow it to be compressed when our lab walks over the holes. After filling the holes with the foam, I just laid a rubber-backed piece of carpeting over the the cargo area and the back of the folded seats. For extra comfort, I also toss a few pillows in the back.

Our Lab Huck shows no sign of being uncomfortable. He thinks he's the Sh**.

Im working on resolving this problem for my dog now. My plan is to make a plywood flooring to fit the space of the back with the seats folded, cover it in extra carpeting I have and cut the board down the middle leaving the carpet intact. That way the board will snugly fit the entire area, can be folded with the carpet on top as a hinge and not have to worry about overly muddy paws. I might look into some of these suggestions as well though.

This is what I love about Jeeps, and D/C. It is left up to you, to be creative, and build the environment, that you need/want. It isn't just handed to you, on a silver platter. Great post, labwagn!!!!!..........

I usually take the seat out of the Jeep if my top is on for the dogs, but occasionally have it folded forward with a blanket down for comfort. The one thing that I worry about is the seat falling on my dog. Does anyone else have a problem with the seat wanting to fall down while driving?

yep.. scared me the first time. I wish it had a latch to hold it up.
