| Confused on dealer pricing?
So a nearby Jeep dealer has a used 2008 Sahara Unltd with about 600 miles on it and he's sticking firm at roughly $30k.
That same dealer has told me he'll sell me any 2009 (brand new) Wrangler (Sahara, Rubicon or X) for Invoice minus $1500. Which would put a similar 2009 Sahara's price at about $27,500. How is it that he won't budge on the used 2008 and is asking for $2500 more on it than a new 2009? He'll never sell the '08!

And he is still making more on the new one than the used one.... After kickbacks from Chrysler, bonus from the bank from the loan and figuring his ACTUAL cost which is never near invoice I would guess he would be making atleast $5000 if he sold you the 2009.

He can't get price reductions from Chrysler or banks on a used vehicle, it's just not possible.

I wonder if I being a california resident, I can purchase the vehicle and register it in california. I believe I will have to pay the difference in state tax plus any normal dmv cost. I think all new Jeeps meet the Ca Emission Standard.

Wow, my parents bought a 2008 with 48 miles on it in April, they offered $19,000 for it. The dealer told them no way, we want $28,500. Two weeks later my parents had it for $19000

I'm going to wait, maybe a couple of months and see how desperate he gets to get those and the '08 off his lot. I want that '08 for $24k or less. I'd obviously take the '09 for that price as well.

The point is this - how is he ever going to sell the 2008 if he's not going to sell it for equal to or less than the 2009s? Seriously!

a few months back, I ran into a 2006 stock TJ with 20k miles at a Jeep dealership, they wouldn't budge from 20k. I stated I can buy a new one for the same $$ and walked away

I'm not sure what all is on it, but for a 2008 Sahara Unlimited, the following ballpark Retail Prices are listed:
Edmunds: $24,101
Kelley Blue Book: $30,820
NADA: $27,650
Average Retail: $27,523
For that kind of money, I'd go for something that had a Warranty with it. Do you get any kind of Transferable Warranty with the '08 Sahara?
Cheers!

the dealer probably took it in on trade for just a little lower than that cause he had to and now he doesnt want to lose money on it.
Blackbeard the only warranty that transfers on 08s is the 3/36 bumper to bumper. but thats not too bad if it only has 600 miles.

I told him that's inevitable, there's nothing he can do but lose money on it. The longer it sits on his lot the more money he's going to lose so why not get it off the lot now and he just kept steering me towards a 2009 Sahara on the lot.

He's not losing money by letting the '08 sit. He's losing money letting the '09 sit because he's paying interest on it.

Hes paying interest on the 08 too. he has the 08 to bring people in and then move them to the 09 when they realize the price on the 09 is cheaper.

If a dealer has any loans from a bank they have to report all of the VINs on thier lot to them. The dealership has no way to prove what vehicles the bank is or isnt paying for so the bank assumes a claim in all of them. Thats how it was as the dealership I worked at in NC. The rules might different in other places but I woudnt think so. The bank is basically a "partner" that the dealership has to asnwer to about any vehicle.

Do most people believe that $1500 under invoice is a good deal for an '09 Wrangler or should I expect better? I'm fairly certain I can move him to at least $2000 below invoice.

What would you consider to be a good deal on a Saharah 09' that retails for 28,600?

Is it an Unlimited and is it 4WD? I can't find an MSRP that low on a bare bones 2009 Unlimited Sahara 4WD.

I found a dealer here in SoCal that will do invoice minus $1500. The $1500 comes from the Jeep rebate thing. The invoice price is what it is. The only vehicles I asked about were Hard Top, Auto, 4x4. If I see something on their lot that I really like.....game on. I am not in a hurry and I make sure the dealer knows that. I have a Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4, so I wont suffer too much.
I will probabely bite on this offer. I have to do a little more research to make sure. I will insist on seeing the invoice paperwork. I will be putting about $15K down. I dont know how much lower a dealer can go. Perhaps someone here that works at a dealership can tell us.

I think they can go lower but don't know for sure. I'm likely going to bite on this offer as well but may wait another month or two while I watch dealer inventories start to shrink (or not shrink) on their 2009 models. I'm going to go in at the end of September and if not then, end of October and see if I can get them down a bit lower.
I also think there's a chance the rebate will increase if these aren't moving.

Sounds like you have a good plan. I thought perhaps after the 2010 inventory started building, the 2009's price would go down some.

My dealer ship is starting to fill up. The Wrangler side was just about packed and there were a half dozen Challengers in the front row with another one in the showroom. I've never seen that many Challengers there. The lot was still fairly empty but the day before I drove by the port and the lots there are filled with Jeeps of all kinds! Wranglers, Libertys, Patriots, and Compasses as far as the eye could see.

I spoke with him earlier today (Oct 8th) and he said he'd still honor that price.
Do people think $26k for a nearly new 2008 Sahara Unltd with hard top is a good deal? Or should I expect to do better? It has just about 800 miles on it.

Got My 08 Rubi for just a little more money than what they are offering to sell you a Sahara. The 08 they want to sell you is already just about 2 yrs old.
