Hey guys im on her for my dad who is waaaaay to computer illiterate to use forums. Anyway, he has a 07' wrangler and wants to start modding the exhaust. Right now he all gung-ho on a gibson cat back he wants. But he wants to know if its worth the money or are their others more worth it. He's also interested in installing a high flow cat if its worth it mpg or power wise.
-thanks guys |

Anybody? Are their any good cat backs for the wrangler? Will the h/f cat make any difference?

It is all a matter of choice, check this site out for exhausts. The flowmaster 40 also has good results.

Go to Borla web site, they should have what you want but a little more expensive than Gibson

they are all pretty close to same as far as power and fuel economy. the sound will be different with each of them. some people on here will tell you that a cat back is worthless and actually makes less power others will swear that they get better fuel economy and can feel the power difference. from the dyno sheets ive seen the cat back flowmaster does well makes slightly more power than stock and sounds good too. when i do my exhaust im just going to change out the muffler to make the sound a little richer and to get that giant can jeep calls a muffler out of the way so it wont get smashed on the trails. if your dad is looking for more power from his jeep then he is in the wrong vehical jeeps are not the fastest or the most powerful vehicals but they will go places no other vehical can. if he wants more sound from his jeep then go right on ahead and get the borla, gibson, flowmaster, etc and be happy. just dont have him get any true dual exhausts cause they do actually make less power and mostly less torque than just a single cat back. there needs to be some back pressure to make power and torque

if i can suggest anything it would be to just get a muffler (flowmaster 40 has worked and sounded well for others on here) and have a muffler shop bend up one peice of tubing to match the stock one on the stock muffler. you will see that there is a clamp just before the stock muffler to remove it so no cutting
its much cheaper than a full cat back and you get close to the same results then get an intake if he doesnt offroad much, if he does dont worry about he wont notice the hp difference, the most important upgrade is next the tuner. superships is the one i would recomend but there are others out there that work and may be cheaper. but with those two or three things intake (or not), muffler, and tuner your dad will get his best results of better mpg and little bit more power

I put the Gibson dual exhaust muffler on one of my JKs...I don't expect that it did anything good for the mileage...but it sounds like I'm going faster...LOL. However, the noise is kinda annoying at 2000rpms when the whole Jeep seems to resonate...it makes my brain hurt...but keep it below or above that point and sounds pretty cool...I should maybe Youtube it so people can try before they buy.

Wrangler JK up to 18.0 horsepower and 24.0 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels
^ i just got this off an ebay post this one to be exact Superchips Flashpaq 07 08 09 Jeep Wrangler JK 3.8L 3875:eBay Motors (item 390112592818 end time Nov-29-09 16:36:00 PST) personally for me its more about the options the tuner has than just how much power it can make because its usaully not much on a naturally aspirated engine, a boosted engine is another story, with the superships tuner you can adjust for wheel and tire size, gear changes and change shift points along with many other features most of which are jeep oriented. i think the most i can tell you is that the jeep is a jeep and it will always be slow unless you do an engine swap or a supersharger both not cheap but the best bang for the buck is intake exhaust and tuner. i know these are not cheap but no mods are so you or better your dad has to think is it worth the money for just that much more performance some people say yes some say no but no one can tell you for you

Banks advertises in jeep raggs, and they offer headers, high flow cat, and cat back.
Full system. i would like to hear from someone that runs this set up. they also offer a power comander to "toon" this exhaust set up... I think it also has an open air element too. |

I actually have the gibson catback with an air raid intake. I dont notice an actual increase in power per se but it does wake the motor up a bit where it doesnt feel so restricted...as for increase in mpg....very minimal. My suggestion is to stay away from the gibson cat back with the dual outlets....2 much free flow, not enough back pressure....u will b flooring the jeep every 2 seconds to get it 2 move. The gibson is a bit loud like w/ every other aftermarket muffler but u can notice it more w/ a hardtop or soft top
Hope this helped, good luck

just put the Gibson cat back on took less than 30 minutes-sounds much better (you can at least hear it now) must weigh about 15 lbs less. don't know about gas mileage yet but performance on lower end seems better. also put on a set of factory 18 w/255r70's so made too many changes at one time for a true evualation

i have a borla cat back and a 77 series k&n air intake. Gave much more power and response but fuel economy is about 1 mile a gallon more than stock.
