Hello Gentlemen,
I recently bought a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited (6 speed) and unfortunately it is 2x4. I am trying to pull up as much information as I possibly could towards converting my 2x4 into a 4x4. Space, and holes are there I just need the parts which I should be able to acquire from a local junk yard, and do all the work myself. For those who might have some insight towards undertaking such a project any certain areas I need to watch out for ? or possible guides posted by other users? any feedback would be greatly appreciated Thank you,

It might be better to sell it and buy one that is already 4x4.

absolutely sell it and buy a 4x4. i can't believe they sell 2wd wranglers.
its gonna cost way more to convert, although you are losing already by buying a new vehicle and selling, so you're in a bad spot either way.

its goin to be hard to find parts in a junk yard , you really need a whole doaner jeep to make it easy
you need the t-case, tranny, both driveshafts, front axle (with matching gears for the rear) ,computer(s) and prob more little stuff. you could also lift it and put a locker in the rear, its no 4wd but i bet it coul dkeep up with a lot of stock 4wd jeeps

i wouldn't put any money in a 2wd wrangler unless its making it 4x4. yes that would help it off road a little, but you need 4wd.
and i agree, find a donor jk. find a rolled 4x4 in a junk yard and buy the whole thing. even then you're lookin at a lot of money.

JP Magazine did a conversion to a 4x2 JK. You can buy front Dana 44s from the factory for roughly 2 grand, and find one in the junkyard for a lot cheaper. They (JP Mag) put an Atlas transfer case in their conversion, since they were eventually going to make it a rock crawler. If you're going to get nuts with your Jeep, it's really not that bad of a thing to start off with a 4x2. The front axle in the 4x2 is just a tube the same diameter as the axle in the 4x4, you'd be ditching the stock axles and upgrading the transfer case anyway. That's why alot of guys who know they want to go balls-out with a rockcrawler start out with the plain-jane SE since they'll replace most, if not all, of the running gear anyway. Why get the high-dollar stock Jeep if you're going to upgrade everything anyways?
Good luck with your conversion!!
