Err, wrong. Insurance is a contract and while there is some gray area for interpretation, if there's a gray area then the decision must fall to benefit the policyholder. If he's denying your claim then he must cite the language for which he's basing the denial. He doesn't get to just decide who gets paid and who doesn't, he interprets the policy and then determines if the policy covers the loss.

What you need to do: Ask him to cite the language for which he's basing his denial. If he can do this, then post or PM me the language (I used to be a licensed adjuster in FL). If he can not, get to the supervisor. What company is this with? Certain companies have different policies, but I've never heard of this. What if you left your door unlocked, top down, window down? Maybe there's something I don't know, but this doesn't sound right to me.

Ask them if they don't cover convertibles. If they say they do then fight them a little more. Demand to speak to supervisors, ask them if it is normal practice to try to find ways to deny legitimate claims. Say you are going to change to a different company. Ask how many times they get claims for people that have convertibles that had the top cut open and things stolen.

If it was just the radio there would be little to fight. But this is not only a theft but a vandalism and destruction of private property. If they cover your Jeep if some one came by with a bat and just wailed on your hood they should cover this.

Good luck fighting the man!

What if you had the soft top down or a convertible top down? Would that mean no coverage also? The doors are made to be removed just like a top....sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

Thanks for letting us all know not to tell our insurance companies that we had the doors off if this happens to us. I would still raise hell with them and if they don't pay, change carriers.

Like 05-GT O.C.D. mentioned . . . make them show you that in the policy. This sounds bogus. Regardless, I'd fight tooth and nail and the minute they pay up, I'd switch to a new insurance company that isn't going to dick you around. If this is how they treat you when it comes to shelling out 1000 bucks for a claim, what do you have to look forward to if there is a bigger problem in the future?

Like these guys are saying--YOU have to fight for your rights-as you interpret them

A DEALER doesn't HAVE to honor a warranty, an insurance company doesn't HAVE to reimburse you for a loss

-----------YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR IT-----------------------

There ain't no more free lunch's, stick up for your rights, may cost, but it's up to you

Good luck

Yeah, Allstate doesn't have the best rep. I worked for Mercury (out of Clearwater) and AIG (now 21st Century Ins) down there. They'll need to cite the language, if they can't ask for a supervisor and tell them that if they can't cite the language that the denial is based on, then you belive they're operating in "bad faith". Bad faith is a trigger that allows someone to sue for punitive damages in addition to just claim damages. There's no need to be a jerk to them, remain professional but let them know that you will escalate the issue and they should take you seriously. Good luck man.

he said no the doors on mine where not ment to be removed since they are full doors! he stated that the reason for half doors are so that if you want you can remove the top half while the lower half is ment to remain. bs yea i know i hug up on him now i'm gonna call back and ask for a supervisor. oh yes he bast this on the fact that when you buy your jeep on the hing there is the lock nut that he say's prevents you from removing your doors. i told him that is there so no noe steals your doors dum as#

Also - I'm sure this will get handled and legal action won't be necessary, BUT - if they decide to be stupid and not work with you, my sister-in-law is an attorney in central FL. She's used to suing insurance companies and even if she couldn't help, she could give you a solid reccommendation.

And yes, me being an insurance adjuster and her suing insurance companies makes for some fun times during the holidays.

Out of curiousity . . . How long have you been with AllState and how much do you send to them each year considering all of your policies with them. This just seems silly for them to risk losing a paying customer over.

oook see if this makes any since? i talked to a rep from the 1-800 number. they stated to me that it is their policy that when they insure a vehicle that at any time if the vehicle is altered an any way beyond what the manufacture has designed for it to do,they do have the right to decline a claim if as a result of that alteration the vehicle was compromised resulting in the need for a claim to be made. in other words even though i had my top down that has nothing to do with this. the act of taking my doors off how ever does. by removeing my doors i compromised the jeep and made it easily assessable for some one to enter my jeep to cause damage and theft. she told me that they studied the owners manual for a 2010 jk. and in the manual it says nothing on how to remove your doors nor did it say it is designed to have it's doors removed for the purpose of driving. i told her i did not agree with what she was saying and that i would have to look into this as far as what my legal rights where. she then told me that if i could show that the manufacture did in deed design the 2010 jeep wranger to have it's doors removable than they would reconsider my claim. i asked her if i was to get a letter from my dealer if that would do? she said no it has to come from the manufacture and it has to show that the doors are designed to be removed by the customer for the intention of driving on or off road with out them on the vehicle. so now what?

If the doors weren't designed to be removed, the manufacturer would not have made the wiring harnesses for the doors designed to be easily Detachable..

Manual from 2007 JK page 26 "Front door removal" pulled from Official Jeep Site - 4x4 SUV, Sport U...tility Vehicle

Will look a little more for the 2010 one for you. They are basically the same so there is instructions on how to remove the doors on the manual. They must be using a "special" manual.

Haha, check this link out!!

Jeep - 2010 Jeep Wrangler - Exterior ...emovable Doors

Also quote pulled from that page
Quote:
All doors can be removed[1] for maximum flexibility
Quote:
Be sure to follow all instructions in Owner's Manual for removal of top, doors and lowering of windshield. Driving with the doors off and windshield down is for off-road use only.
They might get you for that one though. Though it does say "... and windshield down..."

This is pure BS and of course they are going to fight you any way that they can. Every time I've had to deal with Allstate, they've done everything that they can to try to weasle out of paying any claim. Every time!

Just tell the insurance company to prove that the burgaler entered the vehicle through the missing door instead of crawling in through the open top. The vehicle is designed to have an open top. And if they can NOT prove that they entry to the vehicle was not through the large opening due to the top off, then they don't have a case.

Just to be fair though, you didn't have a sign on your Jeep stating "free radio available, just remove from dash" did you?

Why are there factory accessories that allow you to store your doors and relocate your mirrors if you aren't able to remove them. They don't know they are fighting a loosing battle. You have the full support of this forum.

This site rocks! Pulled up the link Zybeon included and not only do they show the JK with the doors off, Mopar makes and sells mirror mounts and storage dollies for when the doors are off. We all know that you can buy this stuff from third parties, so this seems like a slam dunk to me.

Go get em!

pp. 186 of the 08 JK manual says: "Outside rear view mirrors are mounted on the doors. If you choose to remove the doors, see your authorized dealer for a replacement cowl-mounted outside mirror. Federal law requires outside mirrors on vehicles for on-road use."

There's also the following text in a WARNING box on the same page containing a bulleted list: "If you remove the doors, store them outside the vehicle. In the event of an accident, a loose door may cause personal injury."

pp.26 of the 08 JK manual: This is the "THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE" section. Instructions for door removal. There are no warning stating off-road use only or anything of that nature herein. They put CAUTION and WARNING boxes everywhere in the manual, so it's highly unlikely that's an omission on their part.

Hope that helps. I'd suggest getting a lawyer on retainer or speaking with your state's Attorney General's office, they can usually provide assistance with insurance companies.

Yeah man. My TJ tells you how to take them off and which fuse to remove so the lights do not stay while driving. I mean, com'on. I would they put the hinges on the outside? I think that Jeep would go to bat for its owners, you should try to get a statement from Jeep.

What a joke. Jeep has it on their site. This reminds me of "A Few Good Men" when they ask about a code red being in the marines hand book and they said it wasn't in there. Then Tom Cruise grabs the book and asks where the book shows where the mess hall is at. Of course it also was not in there.
When you buy a Jeep you know the doors are removable even though it may or may not be in the manual.
