hello, new to the site, been reading some post and I have a few questions.
first off, like anything I buy I always find out I could have made a better decision on that certain vehicle...lol par for the course I guess. well we need to start some where so here we go! 2010 new sport 2 dr 4x4 MSRP is 22,000 and some change, auto no power or cruise soft top and 3.73 gears and I saw no mention on the sticker of a limited slip rear.... with that said its pretty bare bones. the unlimited version does have limited slip and of course a few more things like power and cruise, but its 26,000 to 28,000. the Rubi is out of my price range. Now, here's my thought on picking a jeep; cruise can be added cheap! and the 8,000 dollars difference in the price of the limited could be used to add free spinning hubs to save fuel and adding lockers front and rear and some other cool stuff, 8 grand could go a long way in putting the sport where it needs to be. PROBLEMS I've read about on this site... I want a 6 speed but have read about them Joging out of gear and having to fight with Jeep to fix it, some have had luck and some not. are there any problems with the autos over heating? water getting in the air breather box and hydrolocking the engine, I find this odd for a vehichle that jeep advertises to go off road, but anyway, is there a solution other than a snorkle? what would some of you suggest than own the new jeep now? likes and dislikes, what would you do different now and so on. thanx, GJ |

go and buy a 08 or 09 rubicon. that will be cheaper than modifying a normal JK.

Take a look at the statistics about how many units jeep sells of the 6 speed per year. I'm sure it must be in the many of 10s of thousands and most likely into the 100 thousands. Out of all of those, the number experiencing JOG out of first gear problems seems to be a tiny number. I've had mine since 8/08 and no JOG, not once. My previous Sahara Unlimited JOGed out of 3rd gear violently once because the stupid operator (me) started pulling on the shifter prior to applying the clutch. Must have been an uncoordinated day or something.

You can get the Sport with the LSD. I have an '09 with LSD and manual with no issues whatsoever. Damn, I wish I didn't just say that.

Beware of the web wheelers!!! 99% of us have zero need for a snorkel . . . to avoid getting water into the air breather box simply avoid submerging the Jeep all the way to the point that most of the engine is underwater . . . the air intake sits pretty high. You'll have water pouring into the cab of your shiny new Jeep long before the water gets up to the air box.

I know there is always a first time for everthing, and every event has a story and then the truth... I was just wondering if this is a issue or not? |

fluke and stupidity...i would say, 8inch of water will only get high enough in the engine bay if you hit the puddle as fast as you can and splash it really high. i killed an altenator in my tacoma that was about 5 years ago because i hit a ditch/mud hole and sent the water/mud over my roof... so yeh its possible but if you have any common sense and dont play in puddles like a kid splashing it everywhere then you will be just fine. plus IF you got water up that high it is very unlikely you will get enough to hydrolock the engine.
