Maxxis Buckshot tires?

anybody try these tires on there JK's? one of my tire places i deal with at my work swear these are the best mud tires around. they dont look too bad and are pretty cheap compared to other tires for sure. they dont look to have any real side bite on them though and from all the reviews i can find they seem to be pretty mixed from good and bad.

but for my jeep they would cost me $143 per tire. size i would be getting would be 275/65/18

seems decent but before i get a set i would like to get some input.

I've never owned any but they're ok. Not the best MT out there, but certainly not the worst. They are good for light and medium depth mud, but suck in the deeper or thick stuff. Rocks I'd choose a different tire. They're great for fire trails and snow however. Rocks and deep mud they just aren't quite agressive enough IMO

Not sure about the Buckshots, but I've got the Maxxis Bighorns and paid about the same. They handle well in snow, mud, and everything else I've thrown at them. They do have some sidewall meat, but aren't too noisy on the road. I've got them in 305/17 size (34") on my Rubicon w/ 2" lift.

I have 33x12.5x15 Maxxis Bighorns on the Lj right now and can't speak higher about them. Much quieter than the stock Rubi tires, aggressive as they get but smooth ride and have handled everything I've thrown at them so far. I have to say that they are even better in wet weather than my BFG all terrians. But that's the big horns.....no clue on the buckshots.

I use to have a set of buckshots. best mt for the price imo. They dont have any real sidewall lugs but they do great in the mud! and there a little loud on the road but they ride smooth. I would recommend them.

Those bighorns look pretty sweet. I like them. I'm pretty sure that those would be a better tire than the buckshots.

I have the BigHorns in 35's. They fling mud and aren't bad at all on the road

the big horns seem like they would be a better all around ride them the buckshot for sure. not sure if they would be as good in mud and such. im gonna try to find a local dealer who has some in stock to compare the two side by side.

thanks for even more input and keep it coming!

I'd bet my jeep those bighorns go through shit better than the buckshots. That tread looks serious. I'd put bighorn on the level of KM2's and MTZ's...you don't get much better than that unless you get Super Swampers.

What type of stuff does your jeep deal with. Trails? Deep mud? Sand? Daily driver? Rocks? Snow?

Ive done all of that with my big horns except snow (fyi they are also studable or snow and ice) and like I said before....I cant speak higher of them. I went to the Go topless event in Mass on Sat and played in some pretty nice mud. I ended up having to pull out another Rubi with stock Goodyear MT's yet mine didnt flinch going through the same sections.

Those things do look pretty sweet. I bet they look even better in person. That's a good lookin' TJ you've got yourself Jp.

I've said it a thousand times. Tires make a jeep. I can't think of a modification that does more for the apperance and performance than tires. That's really what determines what you can climb, and how far through a hole you'll go. All these jeeps seriously need is a little lift 3" or less, some 32 or 33" tires, and a nice agressive tread pattern. That's it. You'll be able to run 90% of the trails out there.

You're making me want a front stinger

If you don't like noise stick with the all-terrains. If you don't mind noise you can roll with anything. Stay away from swampers though. They'll vibrate your filling out. Great for a trail rig though.

It's probably true. Just as a rule of thumb I tell folks MT's are generally noisier than AT's. Plus, some people report x tire is quite, while others say it isn't. You know how it goes. I'm the worst person to ask what's noisy and what isn't. To me, swampers are noisy, km2's are noisy, MTZ's make a racket, but duratracs are quiet, so are MTR's. I don't know. I don't have the ear for it I guess. Tire noise doesn't bother me like some.

Like I said before, I have BigHorns in a 35. They are mean looking, not super expensive, fling mud all the way to my roof, and the part I like best is they aren't loud at all. I had the come off the show room floor Goodyear Wrangler's on my Jeep before and it really isn't that much louder. Just a slight hum
