On Tuesday Sept. 2nd I purchased a 2007 4 door Jeep Sahara used from a car dealer. The next day I took it to another mechanic just to check out....I wasnt expecting to find anything serious, but figured I would have him eye ball it.
Turns out the Jeep was in a terrible wreck, had so much body work that it was not even worth near what I paid for it. I returned it to the dealer, and after hours of threatening lawsuites, they reversed the deal and gave me my old car back. My old car is a 2008 Nissan Rogue, so I owe $2K more than it's worth. I was willing to eat that cost just to get into a Jeep because I like them so much. Because of the backward payment, I am now looking at the base model 4 door Jeeps. I am going in on Monday to "negotiate". I would Love a Freedom Top, but know that is not included in the base model. I have 2 questions. 1. What should I really pay for a base model 4 door? I want a point to shoot for when negotiating. 2. Has anyone negotiated a free Freedom Top as part of the deal on a base model? Thanks |

Can't help with the Freedom Top...but as far as pricing goes...use New Car Prices, Used Car Prices, Blue Book Value, Car Reviews - Official Kelley Blue Book Site (Kelly Blue Book) and N.A.D.A. Home Page to determine going pricing for any vehicle...except maybe pickup trucks right now. I also use AutoTrader.com - Buy Used Cars, New Cars, Sell a Car, Find Car Dealers to search for a vehicle and get an average of what they are going for in my area. Based on that...you can make a pretty educated guess on what you might have to pay for a vehicle. Remember that car dealers are hurting right now...never pay what they are asking. I just bought my 2007 2 door Wrangler and ended up paying $2,500 less than asking. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

First, I did do Carfax, nothing showed up.
Regardless, I got a brand new 08 X model last night. Got a GREAT deal. They paid off my old loan, which I was backward on....And they sold me a high end X model way below invoice. I love it so far!! |

Well, it was a little more complicated than a regular deal. I had a trade in that was only a year into a 5 year loan...So I should have been backward. They rolled some incentives toward the other car....The car was worth about $17,500, and I owed $19,000...So they rolled at least 1K+ into my old car.
They then discounted the car I bought. All in all, they paid off my old car in full, and sold me a Jeep that had an MSPR of about 26K for a little less than $22,500. The Jeep is a Silver X model with a Freedom Roof, Sirius, Fog Lamps, Tinted window, 17" alloy wheels and all the little gadgets on the dash for temperature, gas miles, etc...Nice car overall...I really felt like I got a good deal, and I am very happy to have it to enjoy the top off in the fall. |

yeah carfax doesnt always show stuff. my friend bought a 2005 minivan wrecked from a private seller, never reported to insurance, both bags blown, dash smashed, complete front clip smashed, fixed it all (including dash and airbags) could barely tell it was wrecked (paint on bolts on fenders off) just traded it in and the dealer ran a car fax and nothing showed up.
