x2 on that yj.
I got a 95 4 cylinder and i get about 13 up to 15 on a good day. Gas mileage is a choice. You either decide that you are gonna have an awesome daily driver and get excellent gas mileage or a crap dd and a complete bad@ss on the trail. Sometimes there is a happy balance. here is an example: If i wanted better gas mileage I would get rid of my brushguard and go to smaller tires. And fix my 5th gear so im not driving in 4th all the time. However, I dont care. I like my Jeep the way it is. I enjoy being able to hit stuff and not worry to much or driving over the curb lol. Best advice for better mileage small tires, correct tire pressure, cai, chop it up and redo the body into a nice teardrop shape for better aerodynamics. O and toss any excess weight you can do without. Such as 50lbs worth of trash or any sibling/family member your not fond of.

gas milage is over rated, and purely reserved for honda. but the ability to drive over the honda is given to the elite of the jeep's.

and being decently quick and averging 31mph....i gotta love it. a jeep is fun...but now that i own one im realizing its not for me. i rather just jump in my cuzins and cruise in his if i want. and plus a jeep is only fun for me in the summer with the roof and drs off. now that its gettin cold...its soo boring to drive. maybe when it snows it will get fun. |

Not too sure about the Honda's, never owned one. But is that "racket pinon" steering you love the most anything similar to Rack and Pinion steering found on some other cars? ![]() Regards, Richard

I have my Civic Hybrid when I want the best MPG and smooth ride...my new Wrangler X when I want to ride back roads and poke around...mine has the factory 18's right now ...out of the first tank I got 16.4mpg.....mine is the Auto
I did want the 6spd manual....which i'm sure would've been slightly better mpg and slightly more fun to drive....

I get between 17 and 18. I got it last spring, gas prices were going sky high and I traded in a 6cyl malibu that would get in the high 20's. I bought it trying to be sensible. I hate driving a car and basically, it runs me 20 bucks a week extra for gas, not as much now. Like my hubby says, I can blow 20 bucks in a heartbeat, screw it. I like the jeep, hated a car and my husband hated the car too.
There's always a trade off. I got to go topless this summer and while I hate winter, I can't wait because I should be able to get around in any weather. Last winter totally stunk, nothing like driving 10 mph in a pile of snow, hoping to get to work. This winter will be cake. |

With gas prices back down where they should be it doesn't matter any more.

They should be lower. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya! LOL!!!! Funny, it takes forever for the prices to trickle down when the barrel goes down yet the prices at the pump shoot up the same day the oil prices go up.
Still paying just under 3 bucks a gallon, I am an hour west of Chicago. We have a place another 90 miles west of us. Damn if it isn't another 50 cents a gallon cheaper. I sure would like to know about that. Do my local taxes affect it that much? If so, then the damn politicians should start looking in the mirror when they are preaching to us about helping us plumbers make ends meet! Done with rant. Yep, it is nice to have gas prices down and I hope they stay that way. I was beginning to get highly annoyed paying 60 bucks for 16 gallons of gas. Didn't seem that long ago when it cost me under 20 bucks, my pay sure has not gone up with everything else. At least I do enjoy my ride now. |

I don't get how the auto and 6 speed get the same highway mileage with such different gear ratios (3.21 for 6 speed and 3.72 for auto). Does anyone have any real world numbers for a 6 speed doing highway miles. The 6 speed should definitely do better on highway with that wide a gap.
