Hey there every one I was just wondering if any one else has had a problem with their manual window cranks--the handle? I got my Jeep Wrangler X two weeks ago and on the second day I closed the passenger door of my jeep and the window crank handle came off. Now I know this is not a big problem because it takes about two seconds to replace but the problem arises when the dealer states it will take a waiting time of 45 minutes for the Jeep mechanics to replace it!
Is there anything special with the window cranks that will merit that time or is it just warrenty BS? Is the manual window crank handle a special part that requires the extensive knowledge of mechanics? The part costs $11.99 so I am just going to purchse the part at another dealer.
I don't know why the teller at the parts department couldn't just have asked some mechanic to go out to my Jeep and change it for me--I shouldn't have to make an appointment for things that could possibly take a matter of seconds to replace!
I used to have a Hyundai Accent 4 years ago and I had to take the window crank off, the handle, becuase I wanted to change the factory speakers; I needed to take the door panel off--Crutchfield has pretty good instructions--it took me 5 minutes to remove the window crank, remove the lock handle, remove the door panel, screws to speaker, replace with new speaker and put everthing back together.
Is the Jeep different? Well I know that there is no room on the doors for speakers--they could perhaps fit with modifications. But other then that why couldn't the mechanic allow me to install the window crank by my self?
In the end I think they just wanted more work for their mechanics--but waisting the time of the customer drives me crazy.
