| Windshield question with cracks from rocks
New to this forum, I just purchased a 2008 X with the S package. Always wanted a Jeep and now it is reality. Problem I have is that I am from Massachusetts where the roads are a mess and cars are always kicking rocks. I have less than 800 miles an already have 2 cracks. One rock sounded like it barelly hit. Is the fact that the windshield is straight up causing it to crack so easy? Do other folks have this problem? Has anybody tried to geth them repaired with that new epoxy process?
Thanks
Bob

Yes, the angle of the windshield makes it more susceptible to rock chips.
I've never had a rock chip fixed but I hear it works pretty good if you do it early.

X2
I have had 2 fixed on mine already. Got them fixed same day they happened and best part is my insurance pays 100% of it.

you can get chips in the windshield fixed very easily. if you ever get a chip in the windshield immediately put a piece of clear tape over it and call the glass guy (putting the tape over the chip will keep the chip clean and clear)

Jeep Windshield = Rock Magnet
Mine gets hit so much I just wait for it to fall out then replace it. Glass Doctor out here replaces TJ glass for 185.00 out the door.

I guess it is pretty common. Windshield repair guy I called had a new Jeep as well. He already replaced his and said don't bother fixing another one will just happen. Wait till it's bad and replace. |

Here in WV they treat the roads with cinders. Had one chip fixed early winter, got another chip last week. Windshield split side to side the next morning during warm up. I would like to send the bill to the state. Do you think they will pay for it?

I've had to replace 4 windshields in the 4-5 yrs I've had my jeep. if you can, get insurance that covers it for ya. new windshield is about 250. the epoxy works if you get it done early, its not completely invisible though and they usually only do it if its not in the windshield wiper range, otherwise they want you to replace the whole windshield. I think thats a state inspection law or something. I'd rather just get a whole new windhsield anyways.
