i asked about the 2.5 stoker earlier on another thread here and got made fun of. lol. I think it'd be cool to improve the little four banger. sure it might take some bucks, as will any swap, but you wont have to custom make any mounts or anything! bolt right in. definitely subbing. lol.

I guess I don't get the appeal. Let's say you put $2000 into custom decking and machine work, built internals, etc. and you get another 30 HP out of it. Now you're at what, 150HP? Wouldn't it make more sense to take that same money and do a swap for a more stout motor? Not making fun of you or anything, just trying to understand why this would be an option when it seems the payout is inadequate. Other than the "because I can" factor, what's the appeal?

Denis

My thinking is, in an emissions state you can get more power without the headache of the smog police (Me).

Im interested as well as I have done MANY 305 > 400 smallblock swaps intentionally to fool the smog boys before I became an inspector (probably still would do it)...
To still have a "2.5L" with 30ish increased HP would be nice. Im still into doing a 5.2L swap, but want to follow this too.

Can the OP post a link to the 505 parts and/or website?

After reading some of the horror stories connected to buying some of the "remanufactured engines" I went on 505 webb site after reading your post and considering purchasing one of their 2.5 stroker engines! I t will just take that much longer to save for it.

The problem is you cannot change the issues the 2.5 has just by bolting stuff on and it in it. For an extra thirty horse put a bottle on it,,,,the result will be the same.

2.5 Jeep Crate Engine

505 performance is saying 185 hp and 200 ft lbs compare this to a stock 4.0L at 190 hp and 225 ft lbs not frickin bad for a $3k drop in motor. I say this is very appealing vs a 4.0L swap. Plus an ax15 conversion I would think. a tranny upgrade would be a given anyway .

I always thought of this as a challenge to see how much horse power we can get from our little 4-bangers...I would definitley like to see if this was ever completed...or if anyone else has put this kind of work into their 4-banger!

how reliable do you think the 4 banger would be at 185 hp? Are stroker engines reliable to begin with?

If I had $3K to put into a motor for my Jeep it sure as hell wouldn't be a 4cyl. You can get a low mileage LS motor for that.

I am all for guys doing their own thing for their Jeeps and would love to see the outcome of this stroker build, but is just seems silly to spend that kind of money for such little gain. I'll take 250+ HP and 300+ ft/lbs out of a V8 for the same money any day of the week. Add to that most V8 swaps give you much better gas mileage too.

So, three years later, and no progress. After reading the first post, I had a feeling it would end up like this. When you read a thread like this, and they haven't started any work or haven't purchased one part, then chances are good that this will be the outcome.
Planning and dreaming is one thing. Execution and follow through is something else.
