YES, too much cable, I ended up looping mine around the steering column under the dash, its not kinked, works great, and accidentally pulled out the wire to my stereo!

That sucked, no music for a day....

Pulled the Tcase out of the '90 tonight.
Going to swap the SYE into the 93 tomorrow and I wanted to get part of it out of the way.

My only hurdle is if the 90s DC driveshaft will fit, I always thought it was a tad short, so hopefully it will work out being that the AX15 is longer then the AX5 was...

If not, I have a driveline shop that can set it up for me.

I was thoroughly surprised at how easily it is to install the SYE kit on a buddies 231J yesterday. If we didn't have to make 10,000 different trips around town for parts/pizza/tools, we could have had it done in a couple hours.

What is the major difference between the 231 an the 231J?

Main difference is the clocking angle, the jeep cases sit a bit flatter I think.

231C has a different mounting area, 5 vs 6 bolts, and the 231C has a WIDER chain, the C chain is swappable into the J, and it a popular swap. This is how the JB conversions chain is set up, but you MUST swap in the cogs, and maybe even the rear case, I have not done a swpa but might someday if I acquire a C case in a flip, or on the cheap.
I am not sure about the D (Dodge) internals.
FYI, C= Chevy/GMC, and can be found in S-10/S-Blazer trucks.

So, I pulled the Tcase from my 93 today, and found a NV3550 makes an AWESOME mount for any Tcase work...
Stripped it down to where I can swap IN all the parts from the SYE that WAS in my '90.
This is easier then swapping input gears, all that crap has to come out anyways,...

Here are some random pics of the process....

Did more work, got the shifter hooked up and adjusted, fitted the rear drive-shaft, and its too short, needs another 1" hacked off.
Got the Barnes skid mounted, adjusted, with the trans mount holes drilled.

Up for tomorrow, fill the Tcase, replace the skid to frame bolts with actual bolts and lock washers (instead of the beveled stock bolts...

Then drive it down to the drive-line shop and have the drive-shaft shortened, with the Jeep there so THEY can measure it and it can be actually correct....

Almost forgot, the exhaust actually hits the skid, I also need to have the exhaust raised to clear it, 1" should work fine...

Also, here is a close up of the drive-shaft, installed but not actually bolted in...

Got my new mount bolts in the skid today, filled up the Tcase, and got it down to the driveline shop.
Its a good thing I know these guys, only cost me $80 to shorten and balance it!

Next week, I get to pain tit, trying to decie what color I want it, Im thinking a dark grey.
ever seen that dark stealthy dark grey gunsmiths use? similar to that, to play off the black body color.
I would also paint my Barnes Rocker and corner armor when I order it...

Only thing left is to have the exhaust raised enough to clear the skid.

Got the exhaust raised, it sits about half an inch above the skid now.
Next I gotta work something out so my trans mount bolts that stick through the skid are not susceptible to rock destruction.

Im thinking domed washers that raise above the head of the nut, and a "Pyramid" shape sloping it to the skid?

Still trying to work this out, the tcase output height is PERFECT, and gives me a GREAT pinion angle right now... If I raise it and weld a plate topside for the tcase to mount to, the pinion angle will be off again...

Then I can paint it...

I recent PM on the forum got me thinking, I am trying to decide between replacing my springs, getting boomerang springs, and modifying them, or both.

Here is my issue, on the REAR springs, at both rear hangers where the shackle is, my military wrap hits the frame when driving over large bumps in the road.

Adding Boom shackles wont help unless I modify them by removing the stock boom center bolt and moving it higher.

OR gettign springs with either a tighter mil wrap, or getting springs WITHOUT the mil wrap.

FYI: my springs came from an older Dick Cepek 3.5" lift kit.
They give me a somewhat rough ride, and only got 2/5 good reviews.
I liked them for a LONG time on my '90, but after the swap, Im starting to think it might be time to upgrade to some softer springs.
Dont get me wrong, these springs can flex, and im sure they will flex MORE with longer shackles, but... well....

see for yourself:

Resealing the front of the hard top, used the kit on Quadratech, which I quickly screwed up, the directions say to put the seal across the front on the old seal, but then it was too fat and wouldnt mount correctly on the windshield, so I said screw it, and tried to pull it off, and in the process RIPPED THE CRAP out of my old seal.

Went to O'rileys and got some generic weather-striping for trunks, and it fit right in there (after LOTS of cleaning off of old seal crud).

So its together and ill test drive it tomorrow.

Oh, I also did the corner seals, they were not part of the kit, but since the passenger side was ripped, I just did them.

That's interesting with the military wrap... 5/8" boomerang shackles won't solve it?

I might have to raise the center pin to clear he military wrap, but Ill have to wait and see, Ill order some booms for both axles and if the will work stock, good, if not, Ill move the center pin up enough to clear...

THREE Speed sensor gears AND a speed sensor at Pick&Pull $7.99

Got my speedo PERFECT!
Grabbed a VSS, and 3 gears, green, orange, and red, used the Green (54 tooth)and I was 5MPH fast, skipped up to RED (56 tooth), PERFECT, 55 on my GPS i4S = 55 on my speedo...

Pic shows all but the RED that im using, I ended up using my old VSS, and the Yellow sensor that came out of my Jeep is in the pic in place of the RED one I bought.

Anyone need one of these gears? there is a 54 and 55, and whatever yellow is, i think its a 50.

Ok, shackle lift, with a 3.5" suspension lift, should I go with a 1/2" or 1" shackle lift?

My options:

Jeep YJ Boomerang Shackles CNC Cut 3 8" Thick 1" Lift | eBay

or

Jeep YJ Boomerang Shackles CNC Cut 3 8" Thick 1 2"Lift | eBay

I cant decide.

For a reason im looking at more lift, reference my shackle post here:

I think they make boomerang shackles specifically with an offset center pin to clear the military wraps. 5/8" should be plenty I'd imagine.

I ended up ordering 2 sets of 6" booms:

Jeep YJ Boomerang Shackles CNC Cut 3 8" Thick 1" Lift | eBay

Ill be able to do whatever I want with them, and with 1 more inch, perhaps it is time to move to 35s....

Regardless, it will give me ~2"ish between the fame and spring, and if its too much, Ill order the half inch lift shackles for ~1"ish space, and sell the 1" booms on CL....

Ok, does anyone notcie how uncomftirable Bestop seats are?

There is this "BAR" or something across the lower back, where my tailbone hits every bump.

there is NO lumbar support..

Im tempted to put the Stock seats from my '90 in my '93....
