302 Swap

So I am going to put this 2001 explorer 302 into my Jeep with an NP435 and have not committed to a TC yet. This will be my first motor swap, and I hear OBD2 motors are a bitch. I am a field technician so I am not scared of the wiring, but I definitely do not have all of the information I need to do it right.

I was hoping someone knows a good resource for a very detailed wiring diagram for this. I am probably going to pull and make a custom dash at the same time with new gauges.

The guy who pulle dit left everything hooked up and just disconnected the harnesses. He even left the fluids in it. It is 100% complete and has roughly 80k on it. Any advice would be appreciated. Any links or stuff to good harnesses, or what exact computer is the best to use for a good price would be even better.

I will keep this thread up to date as a go along so everyone can learn with me.

You will love the 435. I put one behind my 2.5 in a 91. It was sick.

I might be able to get the ETM manual for that, I was a Ford tech for 15 years and still have friends that may have one, I'll check for you. I have a bunch of them but they are all mustangs from 90-2000.

Might be a stretch but if you can get vin from the explorer it came from I can tell you what PCM to get.

Unfortunately I cannot get the vin. I couldn't find anything on the engine, but I was told to look for a tag on the valve cover. I will get it on the engine stand this weekend and see what it says. As clean as this motor is I am sure it is still there.

And Monster93, if you could get me the diagram that would be awesome!

I have great news, I have anything you need as far as documents go, We just got new software at work and I have all ETM's for any car, I just pulled up the 2001 and everything is available to me,and its right from Ford manuals, Let me know what you need specifically and ill post it for you.

Aww man! That is friggin awesome! Thank you.

If you have the pin outs for all the harnesses on the motor that would be great. All the original harnesses are connected, so if I know what goes where i can label them all and wire them into a pcm easily.

The top one for PCM says 4.0 but the pin out same for 5.0. Let me know specifically what you need because there are tons of connector pin outs and photos, if your starting from a certain location I can work on those to start.

Awesome diagrams. Thanks man. I wont be wiring anything for a while still since I ended up getting emergency spine surgery a couple of weeks after buying my motor.

If you PM me your email address I will email you the style diagram I am looking for. I do not know what it is called, but they make them for only the electrical and control systems for vehicles and give you much more info. I have not been able to find one, or even anywhere I can buy what I am looking for for this motor. If you dont have it maybe you can tell me where to find it.

I went to the junkyard the other day and they had a 200 Mountaineer sitting there right at the gate. They sold me the PCM for $15, and the under the hood fuse box and other halves of the harnesses I needed for $10. I assume it will work? Motor was exact same as what I have when I looked at it, and the PCM says ford on it.
