88 jeep wrangler build

I picked up my first wrangler the other night to build a mudding project for the summer. I have been doing some research but nothing I have found has really help in make final decisions. I do know I want to small block swap it, easy power and I'm a chevy guy. Next is axles, this is were I'm stuck. Should I buy a complete rusted out k20 and use the whole drive line out of it and junk the rest? I'm not sure. Also on the tires I'm going to run either 35s or 37s just depends on what I find. I also want to add that Im never going to plate it. I also have a deck over gooseneck to haul it so width isn't an issue for me. What are some thoughts on this? I have found a couple k20s for about 1000 bucks. I can also weld and fab stuff up so none of that will be an issue! What do you guys think?

Welcome aboard!! I'm doing a frame off resto on a 88YJ myself. I would suggest you read as many of the build threads as you can. They all have some great ideas. When you see something you like get in touch with the original poster and ask as many questions as you can. Everyone on the forum is willing to help. It's a great bunch of guys and gals. buying an entire k20 or even a k30 is a great idea.there are a lot of parts that you will use off the donor that you probably are not even considering now..

Well I sold the stock 4.2 today, now all I'm left with is the trans and tcase. Saturday I'm picking up a 79 k20 running and driving for 800 with a title so I have a complete driveline, i just have to order the engine crossmember and get to work in the next week or 2. I will update you guys some more and I will start adding pictures here soon.

Here is a picture of it now the day I brought it home.

sorry I haven't updated you guys in a bit, but so far I have the motor trans and and tcase is installed out of the 79. I ended up using the stock jeep trans mount and modifying it to hold up the chevy driveline. I got both of the axles installed and made my rear dive shaft. I used most of the factory gauges inside the jeep and hooked them up to the small block and tossed tach in it. today im going to work on the steering. im going to use the k20 box because I knw it will hold up alittle bit better than the jeep one with the off roading and bigger tires. I have to run break lines and bleed them up and weld all the new shock mounts on it and figure out what shocks to use. I also want to say the advanced adaptors played a big part in putting the engine in and the quality on there product. im going to post a bunch of pictures of it in a little bit for you guys. for the refeance aswell between the parts truck and buying the jeep and some other stuff I onlt have about 2 grand into this thing so far so its not bad.
