you sure made things look a lot better, rust and YJ's seem to go together

YJ's and rust sure do go together in our northern climates. I took a look at your build and you had quite a bit of rust to deal with as well! The builds are lots of fun though, and a good learning experience for the younger ones as we both learn together.
Our next hurdle will be getting the glass out of the old windshield and into the new one. We have all the gaskets and adhesive from Quadratec so hopefully it will go together okay. More YouTube video watching and then we'll tackle it.

Took the afternoon off yesterday since my son had a half day at school so we could get the glass into the new windshield frame. Got all the accessories moved over from the old frame to the new and started on the glass. Was cutting the old urethane around the glass and I broke the glass!

Now to get new glass and continue on the way. On the plus side the newly painted windshield does look good on the jeep. We also got all the seat and seat-belt bolts installed so those are done and started priming and sanding all the hinges for their coat of black paint.

Priced up the replacement glass today, $140 & up from most online retailers, $102 with free shipping on eBay, $90 delivered from the local non-chain auto glass place around here. Score!

We got the new glass in and the windshield frame installed this past weekend. Here is how it looks now. The color of the windshield frame is the color the body will be soon. Also installed a set of 7" TJ flares we got from craigslist late last week.

Tore the motor down yesterday, its junk. Lots of metal in the pan, bearings worn out, gas in the oil, need I continue? Lol

We have a remanufactured long block on the way from ATK thru 4wd.com. it will go in next weekend.

Great looking build so far. Did you stay with the 2.5 or move to the 4.0?

Stayed with the 2.5. My son's ultimate goal is to put a 4BT in it but can't afford that right now. He can pay for that upgrade

Just took the jeep via trailer to a friend's shop for the engine work. I hope the remanufactured engine gets here in time to do the swap on Saturday. We will be changing out the clutch, radiator, alternator, and exhaust manifold at the same time. With some luck it will be back on the road a week from today.

Well the old engine is out and just waiting for the remanufactured one to arrive. Probably Monday or Tuesday.

A little update on the engine. We have the new engine in and almost ready to fire up. Ran into several complications with other parts that needed replacement. Should be back on the road on Saturday. We had to replace lots of stuff.

Well it's finally done! Back on the road last night according to my mechanic friend and we're going to pick it up this afternoon. Two weeks of down time and now we have a new engine. Time to prep for paint after we get an alignment.

The new engine is in but we are having some issues with backfiring and what I believe is vacuum leaks. I still need to get some time to go thru the engine and trace the vacuum lines and check all the component electrical connections. Something is not connected properly. The engine is idling at 1500 - 200 RPM and it is running very rich. We shall see what some line investigation brings up. Guess that is what we get for using a friend who is a diesel mechanic to install a gas engine.

Here is a pic my son took when he went fishing the other day. Good to have it usable again that is for sure.

Looking good! Just curious and my apologies if you already mentioned it, but are you painting it black or going with a different color or even possibly using a rhino lining type of exterior? I am trying to get some ideas for mine and it is black too with the clear coat coming off.

We're going to paint it chrome yellow with the Duplicolor Paint Shop stuff. Already did the new windshield and drivers door. Working on the passenger door now so it will be painted early next week.

Got one of the repainted doors on! Also got the new engine to idle at 900 vs the 2300 it was at after the swap. Turns out it was the intake/exhaust manifold leaking and bringing in air. Had to get the proper bolt set for the manifold and now its much better. Also will be installing a set of 2.5 degree shims on the front springs to a just the castor angle and installing a steering gear brace. Should be getting close now to finishing it!

Made some additions on the YJ yesterday. Added a set of 2.5 degree shims under the front axle to correct the castor angle, wow does that make a huge difference! Drives like an actual automobile now . Also added blue LED's for all the dash gauges and got the CD player installed.

Your moving fast with this thing

I wish I had the time and money to do this. My jeep will probably sit on blocks for a few months before it anywhere near road ready. and another year or so before its trail ready.
