Not much progress. Starting the layup of the dash, had to reinforce the splash. I drop off the th400 tomorrow for the output shaft swap. He recommends a shift kit because the 400 shifts into 2nd @ 4400 rpm. To do..or...not? I think I will.

Dropped the trans off today and he let me borrow an empty 400 case so I can get the motor, trans, transcase in position so I can start the motor mounts. (along with the trans crossmember) He's pressing in the seal in the adapter tonight, I'll grab it tomorrow so I can get the TC hooked up. This weekend is busy with the family but I'm gonna try to get it set in there....working on the dash tonight

Painted the block the other night

Got the dash layed up today, I'll pop it off tomorrow.

I got $60 on the dash build.

I'll figure out how much I've spent so far and post later.

Dash

Popped the dash out of the mold. It wasn't easy, I didn't put any draft on the shapes I know better than that. Need to add some ribs on the backside to add some strength. The A surface turned out pretty sweet, I wasn't really worried about it because I'm going to spray it with bedliner material.

Been very busy with work and the family, I did manage to get it lowered in there. Ordering the HEI DISTRIBUTOR off ebay tonight or tomorrow, then I'll set the heads and intake on for final placement and start the motor mounts.

Ordered the distributor tonight. Gonna try the 383 SUPER 65K HEI DISTRIBUTOR 6500-R. Really need it for engine placement.
My daughter has regional Cross Country meet Saturday morning, she needs a top 15 finish to qualify for the State meet. That's more important than my jeep right now. Can you say "College scholarship"

Nope, I didn't start the motor mount's. It was 70* out and I wasn't gonna waste a weekend like that working on the jeep. I did get the wood stove hooked up, lawn mower put away and the snow blower ready.
It's 32* outside right now and 82* in the garage. Tonight I'm working on getting the motor/trans in the "G SPOT"!

Motor Mounts

Ordered these from Jegs Monday and they showed up today! With a free hat!

I need bolts to mount them to the block and I have to track down some bushings. That will be Fridays chore while the wife is shopping.

This is how it's setting tonight, drivers side is still about .250 high. I'll fix that tonight and I have a 3* pitch with the trans pan level with the bottom of the frame.

I have 1.5 inches between the distriburator and the firewall and the stock front drive shaft still fits.

Thank's

I've never built anything that has a motor. I bought my 93 YJ (2.5L) just to play on the trails and a little mud. That got boring...We go to mud boggs as spectators and that was fun but got old.

A spring bogg a cool YJ came out and ripped it up pretty good and I said to my wife " let me build ours like that" and she said "ok, as long as it's not loud"

Well dear, it's gonna be loud!

I'm doing my build by doing research on several forums about SBC in a YJ, and I respect everyones advice and recommendations so please keep them coming.

Well I found the motor mount bushings @ EnergySuspensionParts.com. Great price, $18.65 shipped.

Universal Link-Flange Type Bushings

HYPER-FLEX™ Performance Polyurethane Link-Flange Type Bushings

Made from HYPER-FLEX™ formula polyurethane–for extreme durability. Suggested uses include: control arms, track rods, 4 bar links, push/nerf bars, tire carrier racks, engine & transmission mounts. Fits many of the more common 4 Bar systems. These are typically found in hot rods, custom rods and many of the older American vehicles.
Each set includes 4 bushings halves and 2 metal sleeves.

I should get them on Thursday so guess whay I'm doing this weekend.

Motor Mounts> Here we go.

I got the tube today for the mounts.( buy your tube before the bushings..trust me on this one)

Cutting the tube square was a challenge with the tools I have, this is how I did it.

Measured and taped a line to follow cutting about 50% through

Then I completed the cut.

It might sound silly but its square and it took 5 min. using one of these

Took my time and I think they will work, I had to keep this going..

Heat tomorrow I'll start with these..

Busy day working around the house before winter sets in. I did get some done.

I don't have expensive equipment, but I try to make it work.

It worked.

So here I set tonight,

I have to re-check the motor/trans position and then with a few more cuts I'll get them in there. The wife want's to get the christmas tree tomorrow morning. That should get me some YJ time!

1 done

Got 1 made today,

I'm not a professional welder. Just started TIG welding 7-8 months ago.

I think I'm gonna add some gussets. Would you?

I'm gonna get the other side made before I weld them in.
