Well reality has set in. With Christmas coming and saving for a $700 Cam doesn't really go together. So, to keep the build going, I'm gonna Bag the 383 block and look for a stock 350. Doing it this way I should be able to continue the build. The 383 stroker needs another $2500 to complete and I should be able to pick up a 350 for $400-$500..see where I'm going with this? Not really the way I planned but it is what it is...

The Build goes on.....

OH yea! The 383 will be built, it's just hard on my wallet trying to build the engine and the YJ at the same time.

My 2009 3500HD needs new tires, Ouch! So the YJ build takes the hit.

They didn't have the tire's for my truck in stock today, I guess it's the "E" rating. I hope to have them on before the 26th, Heading upnorth to see my mother for Christmas in Luzerne Michigan.

I did get the motor mounts tacked in tonight.

The guy on Craigslist hasn't been responding about the stock 350.

A Little Progress on the YJ

Been trying to clean up the 350. I'm gonna pick up some cheap valve covers so I'm not worried about these and I'm gonna sandblast the intake and change the oil pan.

Worked on the dash around the steering column.

My son knew I needed gauges so he got me some for christmas. They will work for now.

The chrome will be blacked out!

What did you use to prep the block for painting? Is there one brand of cleaner and paint that's better, that hold up better, than the rest?

I used CRC brake parts cleaner(5-6 cans) along with a cone shaped wire wheel on a drill along with a tooth brush. I used a 2" grinder with scotch brite roloc on the oil pan. I did spray-scrub-spray.... many times.

As for paint, I used Dupli-Color Engine Enamel, "Chevrolet Orange" (2.5 cans)

I did do 2 blocks so your use should be less.

Ok thanks. I'm still buying parts for my YJ. My thoughts are to stockpile as many as I can while the weather's cold. Then this spring get to work. My goal is to have the frame, suspension and drive train done by the end of the summer. Then over the winter I'll start buying all the parts to do the body and interior the next summer. I'm not in a big hurry to get done since I can't retire from this job for another 6-7 years. Then it's off to the beach to catch as many fish as I can!! But thanks for the info on cleaning the block for paint. Take Care. Gunny Out!!

Got some stuff today...

Had to get the carb spacer because the carb linkage crashed on the intake. I'm glad the dual fuel line was only 10 bucks because it won't fit, too short. (ebay buy, not worth sending back)

It's suppose to be 60* here tomorrow. So I'm heading to the pick n pull for some miscellaneous goodies.

Picked up the alternator brackets today at the pick-n-pull, got them sandblasted and painted. Hell, the wife even went with me and I think she enjoyed it except for the mud. She did find a Sunfire with some good front seats I'm gonna go back and get. $50 for the pair and hear they are a direct bolt in.

Found this today on the web...

Thinking.....Next Build..... Just Thinking......
