I wish I had the skill set to convert an axle like you guys, instead of buying a "bolt on" version. I'm taking baby steps with my first Jeep.

May I ask you guys... what is your projected total cost of the final product(D35 to 8.8 swap)?

I'll be about $500 in mine all together. That includes the axel. New brakes rotors e brakes, bearings for the whole axel, conversion kit ect. You can do it cheaper honestly, but I want it to be a like new install.
And keep in mind you can resell that Dana 35 for $150-200.

What did you pay for the e brake conversion. I'm gonna try a home brew first. If it's not successful then I'll have to purchase it.

It's looking good. Looks like your getting a lot more accomplished than I am. I'm stuck right now until I get my bearing kit Wednesday.

It looks great. I would like to do a sye, but I am gonna do a locker in the front and ladder bars first.

Have a little rust on the skid plate threaded inserts. This is the before pic.

This is after I hit it with the descaler or needle file.

Then I cleaned it with degreaser and shot it with undercoating.

Turns black after it dries......

Got the transfer case back in.....

Just another shot of the transfer case......

Then I put the new drive shaft in........

Drive shafts are Tatton's......Chris at jeepaddons.com is very helpful and easy to deal with.

Very impressed with the quality of the drive shafts and they are very nice heavy duty units. In that last pick you can tell........

Ooops.....I forgot to mention that I did not reuse the carriage bolts that the PO used on the front drive shaft. Do you guys think it'll be ok with the good bolts instead of a grade 0.........

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt & assume he ordered the proper strap & bolts... and only put that in to run to the store for milk for his new born child. Then he forgot????

Ok, bad move, no excuse! LOL

Now on your skidplate did it bolt straight to the frame? because mine had a bar that went between the frame & skidplate on each side...

I had some rust to clean & coat around those bolt holes as well.

That's for your lift kit to drop it down.

When using the sye and the cv style drive shafts you don't have to drop the skid plate.

OK guys, went and got me some JESUS this morning.... Then went out and ate.... Then went to a old couples 65th anniversary party.... AND THEN got to work on old Blue Bird..... Didn't get much done but I have some pics.....

Started off drilling a hole under the dash and mounted the bracket.

Then drilled an 11/16 hole in the fire wall for the grommet.

Fed the cable through with the nut and washer.

Looks pretty good on the inside......

I put assembly lube on the actuator just to make sure it had good lube.

This end is for the light on the dash. I put some thread sealer on it to be safe.

More assembly lube on the fork.

More assembly lube on the internals.......
