Air intake question

I have a new to me 91 yj. The air intake has a duct that goes from the filter housing to the front of the radiator where it pulls ar in. Is this normal? Will this affect water fording or should be considering relocation?

I am just trying to find out before I try to cross streams and the like.

The factory intake on my "92" is right in the grill also. I cross a lot of water and the intake is right where the bow wave would be, and be under water when crossing. I changed to a tube intake that keeps the in-take high in the engine compartment, not because ti gives more power as claimed, it does not, but because it keeps the intake clear.

Thanks. I'll see if I can place it a little higher.
